And I thought some of my theories required heavy-duty tin foil!

He is being appointed as a payback for helping Bush steal 2000. He is an extremist replacing an extremist...a wash. The real test/fight will be the jurist who replaces O'Connor. She was the swing vote. If her slot goes to another extremist (which it will), we need to think about impeaching any dem senator who approves the asshole, not the asshole itself. Bush DOES have the right to put anyone he wants on the court. We are supposed to rely on our REPRESENTITIVES to stop him from going too far. So far all they're doing is rolling over for a Bush belly-rub.

2. Only with " the advice and consent of the senate."
The senate is supposed to "consent". If indivdual senators don't agree that the nominee is qualified they have an obligation to oppose him.

3. the chief justice
does NOT impeach. he merely presides over any possible trials. the impeachment process is in the power of the house of rep and the senate..

but if the chief justice were to be impeached and tried, the senior member of the SCOTUS would preside at the trial.
