What do you think NO will look like in 3 years?
Given morons* success at rebuilding Iraq, what do you think will happen?

Personally, I think the well to do areas will be fine, but the repukes will spin that the poorer neighborhoods are tied down in "red tape" do to "problems" with the local Democrats. Just wait for it. I'm fully expecting the failure to rebuild on us.

3. WASP city.
They're going to rebuild everything to the point where only rich white republicans can afford.

4. A bunch of condos
A lot of rich white people enjoying land that belonged to the not-rich for so long. Pretty much the same as the rest of America is starting to look.

9. Well...since a large part of the metropolitan area was not flooded...
I believe Downtown, French Quarter, Fauxborg Marigny, and Uptown/Garden District will be about the same. I believe Jefferson Parish, Northshore and West Bank will boom as people reconstructing the city will initially have to live there. I believe Mid-City, Lakeshore, and Gentilly neighborhoods will be rebuilt at about the same affordability scale as before although insurance will go through the roof. And, most hopefully, I believe the Lower 9th ward will be rebuilt replacing some truly horrible living conditions.

14. New Orleans will be rebuilt with the labor of its own people...
... who will return home. That's if we fight for it.

But if we just throw up our hands in defeat, then New Orleans will become a pseudo-chic, ethnically-cleansed town for the affluent (who will go there for the "ambience" -- a Disneyfied verson of the banished people's culture).

Me, I think we can win this one. But only if we understand that the right to return home is a human right, and act accordingly.

If you want to help the displaced people of New Orleans and the Gulf, please check out the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement.
