Call your senator if they voted against Katrina Commision!!
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 10:55 AM by terip64
They are listed here http://americablog.blogspot.com/2005/09/action-alert-call-us-senate-ask-gop.html

I took an extra minute and told the young republican that answered the phone that:
1. I appreciate them and their interest in government
2. That I don't necessarily think that they are an idiot because they are republican and that I am sure that they don't think that I am an idiot because I am a democrat or liberal.
and
3. That I have a lot of faith in their generation, that they don't all hate gay people and that they don't all want abortion to be outlawed, but that they have to look at what the people at the top are up to and how could they really defend the 250,000 credit card limits for federal workers
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/katrina_credit_cards
and the developing story at rawstory.com which says that only the GOP will have supeona power in the Katrina probe.

We need to unite people of reason. Republicans that are honest are not necessarily the enemy. We need their help to take back their party from corruption.

1. fyi
Just so you know, any comments you sent to Senators who do not represent the state you are from will almost certainly be ignored. Congressionals (and this goes for members of both sides) are pretty adamant about only paying attention to their own constituents.

2. Not necesarily true. I wrote to Lieberman and Collins as chair of the
Homeland Security Committee and got responses, though inadequate, from both. From Lieberman I got a long letter.

4. I assure you it was a form letter.
And Lieberman, had Presidential aspirations, which is why he responded. Can't speak for Collins, but maybe that's their office's policy.

3. This is absolutely true.
It's not so much that they're "adamant", it's more that they aren't going to waste resources that are already stretched very thin to deal with the concerns of someone that will never even have the opportunity to vote for you.

7. So it split on party lines completely.
I don't see any defectors from either side of the aisle.

I sent Brooklyn Normy Coleman an email yesterday on this.

10. Actually I do not want an independent commission if it is like the 9/11
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 11:34 AM by OmmmSweetOmmm
"cOmission", which I felt did an awful job, and which was handpicked by the shrub. I would prefer a special prosecuter to investigate what happened.

11. Collins and Snowe said NAY, however I had written to them earlier demandin
not a bipartisan investigation but a fully independent one.

I think I shall put another flea in their ears on that.

12. I guess we don't need to investigate anyway
We all know who is 100% responsible for the screw-ups.

Republicans. Now we can add "cover-up" to the list.

13.  Is it possible for " We The People"

to have .........say an outside lawyer....investigate and sue the government for their lack of inaction?..........or to have a group like the 9-11 girls to start getting on media shows and start demanding an independent investigation........would congress have to tun this decision around...

14. My note to my two Senators (in KY) was short and sweet:
"Your vote against the legislation establishing an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate what went wrong with the Katrina disaster is an _admission_ that the Bush administration is mostly to blame for the sluggish reaction of FEMA, leaving many to wither and die. Thank you for confirming this for me."
