Total media blackout - Where can one find a body count?
Not only are they not showing any coverage of bodies being removed, but they are not even giving out a total body count. This is from my observation of trying to search all the main media sites and any alternative sites that would/should provide this information.

Does anyone have a source to find a current body count?

The last count I saw seemed not only very low, but not all that different from the day(s) before.

Where is all the outrage at the obvious media blackout????

2. There is an outrage and CNN did show them removing one
body yesterday

Nubmber was over 800 CONFIRMED dead as of this morning, but they will try to keep the number under 3000, 9.11 and all

4. The Count
It will be hard to keep the count from being anything other than what it is. We have numbers of people who are listed missing. If they are never found and reunited with family members then the discrepencies will come to light. For instance the Center For Missing and Exploited Children has over 2100 children listed with them as missing and to date some 400 reunited with family. That leaves 1700 unaccounted for children. It means keeping track of the numbers as they have been given. There are supposedly one million people who have been relocated throughout the US from the Gulf region. It will be fairly simple to see from the Census the population totals of the towns and cities that Katrina affected and determine if that number is accurate.

5. Not as easy as all that.
There are possibly hundreds who have no one to enquire about them. People who have no families, people who are estranged from their families, people whose families had no idea they were in New Orleans.

There have been more than a few times in my life when I could have simply disappeared, and even my relatively close family would have no notion where to start looking. I say I'm headed for New York, but wind up in San Francisco -- if I had no ID I'd never be claimed.

I don't think that the administration will admit to any casualties that are not spoken for.

9. I agree
I know that it is easy to disappear in this large country of ours. But the question remains if they have over 7000 missing adults and children that have been listed with either the Red Cross or some other relief agency and they aren't all accounted for then there might be some problem with too low a death count.

3. Body counts have been reported daily on CNN..
rising by the hundred almost every day. Over 800 this morning.

As for no pictures of removing the dead, don't blame the media, please. Blame the army. The media are being kept away by members of the 82nd Airborne.

7. I noticed last night
Not a peep on the evening news. And the LA body count seems to be stuck on 400 and change.

8. Yes, I've noticed the number has been stuck around 400 in LA also. This
doesn't make sense since they have said the recovery has picked up and the bodies have been taken to the convention center as a staging area then to the morgue. Why don't the reporters go the the convention center or morgue and start inquiring? I afraid the answer is the gov't won't let them.

10. Last night
On the CNN scrolling news bar the count for LA was up to over 500 I believe. And NOLA is still 40% under water.

11. AP cited on WWLTV.com Katrina Blog: 710
So far.

Keep in mind, however, that one of the first body counts out of Jefferson Parish had Sheriff Harry Lee saying only 10% of the bodies recovered could be attributed to Katrina.

WTF? More here (including a cite for his quote): wetbankguide.blogspot.com

So, the death toll so far is somewhere between 710 and 7,100. Your guess to the figure in between is as good as mine.
