I AM watching the stinkin' lousy speech

I am making this couterpoint post because not watching the speech in my opinion is ignorant. Sure, it will suck, make us uncomfortable, make our blood pressure rise, and all else. But if we shut ourselves away from the important issues, speeches, and news we will just be like the clueless Bush voters and non-voters of 2000 and 2004 who said "What difference will it make?" We owe it to ourselves as democrats (a.k.a "the intellectuals") to watch this speech.

I have an ongoing battle with the man of the house; he wants to push mute every time we see Bush or his cronies open their vile mouths. I like to listen to them lie. Masochistic? Maybe. But 9 times out of 10 I am able to use the lies they spew.

Man of the house prefers to get his news in digest form, mainly with the help of DU:)

...were just joking about Bush and his teleprompter...wondering what would happen if it stopped working. (Both laughed at the thought.) They said that it happened to Clinton once, but he just ad libed and did just fine....you couldn't even tell it broke. They both agreed that no way could Bush do that.

Let's see if mind control works. We can all focus real hard and see if we can blow a fuse in the teleprompter.

I always concentrate on the teleprompter. That would be the absolute best to see him without his speech right there. I remember the time when they had a problem with Clinton's teleprompter and he just went on without skipping a beat. No one knew anything about it for days until it came out. I think Clinton spoke for 20 minutes without it.

The news will just quote the most "presidential" parts and forget the rest anyway. They'll show "We are at work", but not the one where he goes "in Montana, I mean Louisiany". They always do that.

I prefer to read transcripts and news articles after the fact. I can't stand the sight or the sound of Bush, and I'm not going to put myself through his twitchy, twangy performance.

Just because Bush speaks doesn't mean that important issues will be discussed. In fact much the opposite is to be expected.

Look, that fucking pinhead isn't going to say anything of any importance what so ever. He is going on TV simply as a matter of damage control for his approval ratings. If he can not convince the Congress that the nation is behind him they will bolt in this pre-election year, and the asswipe can not afford that. We, on the other hand, can. So when you consider that viewership is, in itself, a form of approval of the chimp it becomes just as important not to watch as it is to shun support of him in other areas as well.
