2. Reminds me of that old, old cigarette ad and
I think the SUV owners would "rather fight than switch"!

3. hell I've already downsized the darn thing, but the day I find a 4 cyclind
that will haul 20 cases of 20oz soda, I'll switch

but our 2nd car is a gas sipper 4 cycl and still only gets about 8MPG more than the SUV (at 20MPH Hwy)

6. Yes, yes he should.
Requiring 300+ hp and several tons of steel to haul one person's ass around is silly and wasteful.

Imagine a team of three hundred horses pulling a cast iron wagon that only has a single person in it. That's what I see around my scoot on the way home from work every day.

12. now that's perspective.
after digging around through various depths of level3 and 4 DU to find this thread, i don't know what you responded to? but the response you provided is solidly on target.

it was always measured in horsepower. Once we are back to said mode of transport, some are going to feel awfully, awfully stupid to have railed against their right to have the 300 Clydesdale team once they have the responsibility to feed it.

but then again, that's perspective.

10. Kerry and Edwards both drive Ford Hybrid Escapes
They get better gas mileage than my little Chevy Prism.

7. Who Cares...Let Them Drive Themselves Poor/Dry
I'd never own one of those tanks. My fear is more how people drive those things than how much gas they hog.

If someone can afford to drive the thing, more power to them. It's only going to be when the taps run dry and a major mindset is forced upon this country to force the large corporates and their political hacks to support alternative energy. In the meantime...roll on.

13. And what about a Honda CRV?
It gets about 26 mpg on the highway (21 city). It has a 4-cylinder engine. It's realtime 4WD is great for the Colorado winters. Everytime I climb into it, I wonder if people know what's under the hood of this thing. We bought it because of its cargo space and gas mileage.

I don't think anyone who lives in Colorado is going to give up any 4WD vehicle.

14. There is no reason whatsoever why SUV mileage can't be improved--
--dramatically.
