Bush is going to get a bounce in the polls
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 08:35 PM by GreenPartyVoter
1) He was just specific enough about action being taken to fix the Gulf sheeple will feel reassured there's a plan.

2) he spoke on poverty and racism.

3) He wore the blue shirt so looked homey and like he was "workin' hard"

However, I am concerned that with all the talk of improving the emergency response effort for the future he didn't mention that under Clinton FEMA was great. He didn't mention rolling back the tax cuts. He didn't say there would be an independent investigation. And I feel for all the attempts to assist evacuees, I fear it won't be enough and that the money will run out and leave them in the lurch.

Editing to say I did NOT mean he is coming back. Just that he will tick upward for a couple days from this. I still feel overall he's toast.

Reminds people we haven't done shit about O/UBL. And the "weapons of mass destruction" thing will remind people there weren't any. Except for the stupidest people.

39. Tucker Carlson said his conservative base is not going to be happy with
Big Government Spending. They will see it as Socialism. Tucker seemed to be pissed at him. I don't watch Tucker but I believe he's a Libertarian. He also didn't like whe "War on Poverty" angle of the speech.

for that! He looked like Brownie, after the crap hit the fan.

I think most moderate Repub's, really aren't going to be that interested in tax cuts after what they have witnessed. Just think, who lives on the beach, not near the beach.

31. Any pres usually does
Question is when will the buzz wear off and the hangover begin?

Also the pounding that he will take from the right wing (Rush, etc) will sober some up too.

Remember the internal of the NYT/CBS poll released today....65% believe that Bush does not have the same priorities. This plays right into the rights discontent on that point.

25. I'm not so sure about that..
..After he stumbled through the first six minutes, he seemed to get more comfortable as he reached for comfort words like "terr" etc etc which resembled more of a campaign speech than anything else..

Nothing new here, he almost physically recoiled as he spoke of the poor, but got more confident as he brought in references to his favourite topic, the war on turr, 9/11, and WMD....(what the fuck does WMD have to do with a hurricane..?)..the only folks that will look on this favourably are is deeply disturbed base...

This might actually get us out of Iraq. The Repugs will say we can't afford both and will pressure ** to wind down the war.

Not that I think he will get us out.. middle eastern oil and bases are his lifelong dream, but I think the Repugs will start asking for it.

30. Bleh, it was contrived as all hell
He 'tried' to speak to everybody. Whoever wrote the speech decided to put a bullshit 'caring' tone out there with really cheesy lines, and discuss liberal things in business rhetoric. It was just beyond silly. Like: Hey I'm gonna cut taxes, and spend more money than ever, everyone should love me!

So, so warped.

Of course half of America won't be able to see through it, for whatever reason, so we're still fucked!

Because the people at a forum I participate in LOVE Bush and are struggling to survive. Their husbands receive raises and they still end up $600 behind because of the increase in their healthcare premium. The gas increases are killing their budgets and winter isn't even here yet. Groceries are more expensive than ever and they can barely make it from paycheck to paycheck without falling behind. Nevermind emergency expenses that are not written in the budget. This scenario is being played out all over the country and it seems that not many are exempt. If Bush gets a few points rise out of this, it most certainly will be over by the time the next bill is due.
