Bush brags about helicopters for the rich in speech from New Orleans
In his speech tonight, Bush bragged about the HCA Children's Hospital workers who carried patients on their backs up eight or nine flights of stairs to the roof for helicopter evacuation. What he didn't say is that the poor people at Charity Hospital, which is directly across the street from HCA, had no power and no evacuation. (Senator Bill Frist's family made their fortune at HCA.)

From the Bush is an Idiot Department...

In his speech on Thursday night, Mr. Bush put on his most compassionate face as he recited the "wonderful acts of compassion" as citizens pulled together to help each other.

Then, there it was, an unbelievably callous act which puts the lie to any claims of competence or human decency by Mr. Bush: "Workers at Children's Hospital carried patients up the stairs for eight or nine floors to the roof where they could be evacuated by helicopter".

Children's Hospital is owned by Hospital Corporation of America, which made the Frist family fortune.

HCA had twenty helicopters to evacuate their patients while Charity Hospital, which is directly across the street, sat in the dark with no helicopters or any other transport to evacuate their patients.

Patients with financial resources get evacuated by helicopter while more critically ill patients at the charity hospital get nothing. And, this is George Bush' example of compassion?

Give me a break!

1. In the middle of all the evacuations, I saw a story about 2 hospitals
that shared the same helipad. One of the hospitals had critical patients on stretchers and in wheelchairs but they were evacuating personnel, who were ambulatory, from the other. :grr:
