SENATOR TRENT LOTT MAY NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 10:11 PM by yankeefanatic3
Roll Call, Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS): "On a personal basis, it is probably time for me to go. On a constituent and professional basis, maybe I shouldn't. I don't know."

As Republican as Mississippi is, if this becomes an open seat it's a toss up. Especially if Congressman Gene Taylor (D) or Attorney General Jim Hood (D) runs.

It is beyond time for Senator Lott to go.

10. We can pick up the seat, but only if Lott retires
If he's a (literally) right-wing Democrat like Jim Hood or Gene Taylor, I believe Dems can win the seat---I'm not big on Mississippi politics, but I think they've been there long enough to have a high popularity rating in a very conservative area.

They'll vote more times than probably any other Democrats would in the Senate with Republicans---they are more conservative than Ben Nelson---but having a (D) by their name is better than having an (R), and they'll vote for Harry Reid as majority leader. If Lott retires, we have a chance to pick up the seat.

11. That's encouraging to hear
I think we all know we would never get a liberal Democrat elected in Mississippi.

13. Mike Moore is our best shot to get this seat
He's more popular than Taylor or Hood. The question is... will he run for Lott's seat or wait to challenge Hayley Babar (intentional SP). Bush didn't have 50% approval in Mississippi before Katrina. SurveyUSA needs to get new poll samples in the smirking chimp's approval there.

BTW, this may be the race that we need to take back the senate.

16. To take back the Senate in 06
We're basically going to need Rhode Island, Montana, Missouri, Arizona, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Atleast a gain of six-----Six MINIMUM IF we are able to retain all of our seats. If Olympia Snowe retires, that will be icing on my cake. There's no reason in my mind why she's so popular in Maine....she's got her own mind, I think she's a good person...I'll give her that -- but time again she always sides with Bush on the majority of issues. Maine should be a cakewalk for a Democrat if Snowe retires.....but I doubt she will.

It's very rare nowadays for a Republican to announce their retirement.

We could quite possibly win in Tennessee if Harold Ford puts up a good fight and the Repub nominee screws up---and that also adds a lot of good stuff.

17. Bush fatigue will help Ford
And you are right about all of those races, but if Lott retires and Gene Taylor, Mike Moore, or (can't remember that other guy's name) runs, it can be a race.
