NOLA too dangerous for Talabani
Or, at least that's what I heard on NPR today--I cannot find this story anywhere, but Iraqi "President" (i.e. Bush administration appointee) Jalal Talabani announced while visiting the US that he would have liked to visit New Orleans, but could not, because of security concerns.

Security concerns? Wait, isn't Bush in New Orleans today? Why is it safe for Bush and not Talabani?

For fuck's sake, isn't New Orleans today still safer than Baghdad any day of the week?

Personally, I think the "security concerns" that were raised are bullshit. One of the Bush administration's smarter PR-types must have realized what horrible press it would have been to have Talabani go to New Orleans, how wrong it would be on so many levels. If so, this shows an appreciation for the power of irony of which I had not thought them capable.
