GOP lawmaker on Social Security reform: 'It's Over'
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/GOP_lawmaker_on_SS_reform_Its_Ove_0915.html

Roll Call reports today that Republican lawmakers are considering abandonment of the Social Security reforms that were to be the cornerstone of Bush's second-term agenda. The story, by Ben Pershing and Emily Pierce, quotes "one Senior Republican lawmaker," as saying flatly, "It's over." Excerpts follow:
#

Fearful that tackling Social Security reform could cripple his party in the 2006 elections, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds (N.Y.) plans to recommend to his fellow leaders that they shelve the issue for the remainder of the 109th Congress.

"Reynolds told Thomas that he would recommend to the leaders that we not proceed with Social Security this year because it did not appear there was any chance it would be passed into law by the Senate, and we'd be forcing our vulnerables to walk to the plank for nothing," said a source familiar with Reynolds' comments.

While Reynolds made reference only to not doing Social Security this year, the source said it was widely understood that "if it doesn't happen now, it's not happening in 2007."

2. So, that would seem its not a good idea, right?
No crap, huh? However, if they can't get it passed due to Katrina, dollars to Iraq, etc, then why would these slimeballs force it down our throats in less rocky times? Oh, yeah, their slimeballs. :eyes:

3. It may be done with this admistration
though the push will continue. They are planting the seeds now so when the Young Republicans that are now in their 20's and 30's get older, they will be more likely to then vote it out. Bringing their Reagan Revolution full circle economically.

7. For a greater part of their voting life the
baby boomers will be the majority voters. Retirees vote and they have more time to learn the ropes.

14. On the bright side
A full circle is a zero, so maybe then people will realize what Reagan's economic "policies" were really worth.

15. How much of the rebuilding cost of N.O. will come from SS lockbox?
I get a real strong feeling that while Shrub will not appear to "push" for SS Reform now, his "sales pitch" of the cost of restoring N.O. will later justify telling SS recipients that 'all American have to make sacrifices'...and that means SS benefit reductions (minor at first...inevitable, but unfortunate.) Given the choice of reducing tax cuts to "His Base," OR reducing SS benefits (to cover the cost of monies borrowed from lockbox)...would there really be a 'contest?' Given the large amount already borrowed, waiting another year or two is FAR too long a wait for impulsive, always-gets-his-way Chimp.

4. They still will have Hell to pay
for cutting Medicaid and the whole Medicare disaster. Not to say that millions of people will suffer greatly by what they have already done.

5. The stench of this administration will be
with us long after they are gone. We will be in debt until eternity and after. Their legacy will be one of utter destruction.

8. Ah, politics before principle ...
I'm glad they've decided to wait to screw us all, this time, but I note that they still plan to screw us all ... just later. They need to keep their control of the legislature so that it will be easier to screw us in the future, don't ya know?

10. Get real! It will NEVER be over...Stay on guard! They despise S.S...
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 10:30 PM by LaPera
As long as the republicans are in power, (and they will be, and even if they are ever not in power, HaHaHa)...They'll need (ideology, i.e. greed) and want to destroy it. They will never really rest until the Social Security bucks are flowing into their pockets...They will absolutely try other ways to weaken, and then destroy it!!! And, that means letting us believe "it's over" They'll go in through the back doors...BEWARE!!!! Retched republican slime!!!
