An opportunity opens WIDE up here in Canton
Some days, you wake up, and the sun is shining, and God is just looking right in your direction saying "Here. You deserve an easy day today."

From my local paper....recently, Fleming Foods shut down, leaving 350 people without work or health care. This letter appeared today.

Lack of insurance may be wake-up call for many Americans
Monday, October 6, 2003 I think we have finally found the catalyst to move middle America from its passive state. This country continues to lose jobs at an alarming rate. I don’t know if the reason is “free trade,” corporate greed, overpopulation or the beginning of the Apocalypse. What many “silent majority” Americans do know is: If you are over 50 and not covered under group health insurance, you stand a good chance of having no insurance.

My husband, a Fleming Foods retiree after 35 years, knows this. I have probably made 50 phone calls to find coverage. Our current provider doesn’t want us. You see, our health is not flawless — nothing bad, just the usual. Maybe the blood pressure is up due to genetic disposition, arthritis finally found us, etc.

<snip>

Do you know how to organize a march? We, and co-workers from many other companies, would be happy to assist. We should pick up the Regulas on our way out of town — not for anything he has done, but because he isn’t as outraged as we are.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gee, let's see...they need somebody who knows how to organize a march, and they HATE Raplh Regula.

Can you think of anybody who could help them out? Maybe somebody who has organized 16 demonstrations and is a candidate against Ralph Regula in 2004???

1. Yes, I know of a guy who could help.
He's a good Democrat, knows how to protest, and, above all, is a great BUCKEYE fan! O-H!

6. I-O!
Later today, I'll write a big report on my meeting Saturday with the Ohio Dem Party leaders (and you will be THRILLED to hear what they have planned in the way of support)

Must have been nice to do a show on Saturday and not have to worry about the end of the game when you hit the airwaves, huh?

3. Woo hoo!
After last week, you deserve a break.
It's a shame said break needs to come under such circumstances, but such is life.

4. Someone who can organize a march AND is running against Regula?
Man, that would be nice. If only such a person existed. Oh well. Such a person exists only in our liberal dreams.

Wait! There's AWD!!

Give'em hell, Jeff.

O.K., AWD, I have some poster board and markers ready to go. I might even be able to scare up some former Fleming employees for you. Keep the route short for the senior citizens. Calling obietiger....obie, are you out there?

edit: wow, just think of the former Timken employees that are going though the same thing. Go, Jeff, go!

9. I'll get the peace group....
....to fan the flames that she just ignited.

If we can get just a small amount of interest to continue this week, we can rally next Saturday (12 days to organize!)

15. 17% of Americans have no health insurance, and many more fear losing it
This is a winning issue that should connect with your base. In corporate America's "race to the bottom" to cut costs by whatever means necessary, huge numbers of American workers will be losing their health benefits in the future.

When the protest will be. If possible I will be there and I am sure there are others Ohio Duers who could help with this.
