We've been losing the political expediency game for a long time. While it's fresh in people's minds maybe we should talk about this administration's failures now -- and keep talking about them right through 2006. There's probably no way impeachment proceedings will be initiated but if the Democrats take this opportunity to show Bush's failures and clearly define their basic principles then we may just have a shot at taking back Congress in 2006. Waiting is just defeatist.

4. Without Congress in on it, no impeachment

The ONLY time a party in power impeached a Pres was Andrew Johnson in 1868. And even then, you can't really say the he was of the "same" party, considering that he did not want a harsh punishment of the South following the Civil War and the controlling power of the Republican Party, the "Radical Republicans" did.

In fact some historians think that had Lincoln lived, he would had problems with his own party.

Today the situation is different. Those Republicans in Congress have made their bed with Bush and now they have to lay in it.

8. Lincoln's own party had him assassinated

He was their tool to gain power through the anti-slavery movement. Once he had served his purpose, they found a willing fool in John Wilkes Booth to carry out the assassination. Booth was conveniently burned in a barn beyond recognition, while those he associated with (including his landlady) were convicted and hanged after the worst kangaroo trial the US has probably ever seen. Then the Republicans (who were mostly leftovers from the moneyed Whig Party) set about making life miserable for Lincoln's successor in their quest to establish a death grip over US national politics, which they held for 40 of the next 48 years.
