Forget the spin. B* was supposed to make us safer after 9/11. He failed.
This is the clear and obvious fact that should not get lost in the "happy spin" of reconstruction. After four years and god knows how much money, FEMA and Homeland Security are a joke and a sham.

Is Homeland Security keeping terrorists out of the country? Are they preventing attacks on US soil? And when the next attack does come, as most politicians say is inevitable, is the Federal Government prepared to deal with the aftermath? Katrina says no.

Time will tell if the administration does a better job with Gulf Coast reconstruction than they have with the fiasco that is Iraq. We'll see if the Bushies do more than simply throw money out for their political cronies to gobble up.

But with Karl "Fair Game" Rove at the reconstruction helm, no-one should hold their breath.

1. AMEN! They failed miserably! And just
when I thought they couldn't disgust me anymore, they managed to.

2. What have the borrow-and-spend Republicans been doing?
It seems they're absolute demons when it comes to whistleblowers like Coleen Rowley and Bunnatine Greenhouse, but when it comes to responding to threats to something other than their own corruption? Ehhhh, not so much.

3. Damn right! Bush "won" the election by being the "Security President".
To think, we could have a truly better man in office right now, just makes me angrier that Bush ignored this disaster.

4. 200 billion more going into pockets of Bush cronies doesn't make us safe

The corruption and incompetence of this gang is staggering. Who can doubt that a big chunk of the reconstruction money paid out under Karl Rove's direction will find its way back into Republican campaign coffers. I doubt we will see any oversight but instead information suppression and manipulation of media coverage to cover their tracks.

5. First and foremost he's sworn to protect the People of the US.
Katrina travesty alone should make his response an impeacheable offense.
