Jerry Springer -- Stupid enough to believe Bush.
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 09:32 AM by Cyrano
I was listening to Jerry Springer on the car radio this morning and he was going on about how Bush gave an FDR-like speech yesterday. He also said that Bush was burying a failed conservative agenda.

Jerry is, at best, gullible, and at worst, really stupid.

How can he believe one word that comes out of the hollow entity named George W. Bush? The man has spent a lifetime lying, to us and to himself. Why would anyone believe him now.

We all know that Karl Rove gave him a script, sent him out to read it, and told him not to worry about anything in it. I can just hear him now. "Don't worry about it, Mr. President. Something else will come along and everyone will forget about all this Katrina bullshit."

The saddest part about that statement is that Rove is probably right.

And the saddest thing about Jerry Springer is, he fell for it.

1. Jerry is a kind man and wants to see the good that is in people,
even though there may not be any. He pretends like * really menas all the nice things he says, but questions how it will translate into reality. Jerry is actually pretty smart about it, because he speaks to a broader audience, not just the "base". The base has Mike Malloy. Jerry is working those "moderates" and doubting conservatives, which is good in many ways.

I think Jerry is good for our party. We may not like everything he says, but he does fit a need.

9. Every kid in a school yard knows that being kind to bullies
gets you a bloody nose, or some lost teeth at best.

Every one of us, Jerry included, must realize we're dealing with people who aren't playing by any rules. When the hell are we going to start fighting back with the same ferocity with which we've been attacked.

15. Amen.
I was nice to the bullies until one day I had enough, punched one in the face, broke his glasses and bloodied his nose. He cried like a baby. I can still see it now.

Sister Mary Albert had to punish me for it, but at the same time said she was glad I had stood up for myself.

I didn't have to worry about any of that crowd for months after that.

Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 09:48 AM by K-W
Jerry is a radio host. His role to play in this fight is spreading progressive ideas and information to the largest possible audience. Not everyone in America wants to hear Mike Malloy.

2. I have a tough time listening to the guy...
He's allways blubbering things like "Mr. President, don't you realize you're hurting the American people?" or "Mr. President, why would you do this?" in this sort of apologetic, concilliatory tone. If you don't know by now that Bush doesn't give a rat's ass about you, me, Springer, or 95 percent of the rest of the country, you haven't been paying attention.

10. That's what I am picking up, too. That if Bush** intended to do what
he outlined in the speech and do it to the benefit of the people in the Gulf States, great. However, he doesn't buy that this isn't a set up to get Bush** out of a hot spot because it won't be funded and that with Rove in charge it'll become another corrpt money pit for Bush's** cronies and buddies.

Jerry made the FDR comparison, but then said, right before he went to a break, that the difference was that when FDR spoke, he meant what he said.

6. He is also asking important questions...
that will resonate with the "other side". Like
Who will be in charge of this great rebuilding?
Who will get the contracts?
Why was the "prevailing wage" requirement stomped?

Jerry isn't red meat enough for me to cheer, but his message is great for those who need the ramp to "catch up".

8. That's an interesting, good point...
The only response I would have is -- how many on-the-fence types are listening to AAR?
In any case, I suppose there's certainly a few, and for that reason, I can see having a guy like Springer on the air. I just wish they'd maybe switch his time slot with someone else, so I don't have to listen to Springer on the way to work.

13. Yep, a diversity of voices is good for us.
We need people like Springer as much as we need people like Malloy.

There are an aweful lot of Americans who are voting against thier best interests because they are niave, uninformed, and loyal to Bush. Appealing to them means showing some respect to thier perspective, and giving them arguments that appeal to their perspective.

26. Jerry Springer is a fucking idiot!
He does us ALL a disservice in speaking for the left...
Actually, some of what you posted could as easily apply to HIM:

"The man has spent a lifetime lying, to us and to himself. Why would anyone believe him now."

I personally HATE the fact that he's on AAR; I have an aversion to his bullshit that borders on the psychotic...
In fact, I wrote about him in an old column back in 2001, and this is the most important part of what I had to say (Jerry, if you're reading this, take heed):

"...my complete and utter revulsion for Jerry Springer is best illustrated by the following analogy: If you were locked in a small cell with a single metal chair, and then they put a big mutant spider in the cell with you, about four feet across and two feet high and hairy and disgusting, and it just sat there about 8 feet from you, not threatening or drooling or buzzing or anything, seemingly calm, even tranquil... no matter how scared you were, or how much you wanted to believe it was sleeping and wouldn't harm you, after only about two or three minutes you'd just have to take that chair and use it to kill that goddamn thing, wouldn't you? A coupla times? Right?

That's the way I feel about Jerry.

Keep him the hell away from me."

27. Are people still dumb enough to believe that Bush WROTE that speech?
Or even knew what the fuck was in it? Bush is not speaking from the heart, he is doing what Rove and Cheney tell him to do. It shocks me to see people like Springer actually behave as IF Bush was behind the speech. IT"S SPEECH THAT IS WRITTEN FOR BUSH. Helloooo?? Bush no more sets policy than I do. If I had a chair close by right now I'd toss it in Springer's direction.

29. No, I'm sure Jerry Springer realizes that Bush didn't write the speech...
and, BTW original poster, neither did Rove. He tells the speechwriters what to say and okays it. But obviously, Springer can't do the whole show talking about Bush's speechwriters, can he? That would be DUMB.

32. I can't listen to Springer
The only personalities on AAR that I care to tune in on a continual basis is Mike Malloy on week nights, Laura Flaunders, and a few other Saturday programs. I like to check in with the Majority Report - but generally conflicts with Democracy Now! on Free Speech TV, Flashpoints on KPFA and other news programming that I check in with locally.

I am dismayed that AAR brought on people like Jerry Springer who really can't compete with other progressive personalities, and Ed Schultz is ridiculous - totally unlistenable - whining sounding parody of the pig man or a wanna be.

Frankly speaking, AAR seems to lack vision of what real progressive talk radio ought to be about.

It should never have been about straight up SHILLING for the DLC, (imo)which is what the dailies like Al Franken, Randi Rhodes Ed Schultz, Jerry Springer is all about. The only exception to the rule seems to be Mike Malloy which is why I am such a regular listener. The weekend personalities and Majority Report seem to at least do the pda talking points which is at least more palatable than the DLC talking points which are just plain lame, imo.

Unfortunately, we still need an alternative to AAR. I hope to hear news soon about serious public affairs talk radio, that isn't beholding to commercial interest or government funding.

It can be had on the internet, but I'm hoping to see something of a radio version of IWT kick off soon.

He is ok sometimes but if you think he is dumb, you're wrong.

He's like Larry Flynt only without a pure, true love for the founding principles of our democracy.

Sorry to be a downer but if they are schilling for Bush, I'm through with them.

Comparing him to FDR is the most attrocious disgusting twisted talking point that Buscho throws out, Bush is the anti-FDR.

His agenda from day one has been to erode the New Deal and turn back all progess of the last 100 years.

36. Ummm, mtnsnake, I think you've gone overboard.
Springer may be naive from time to time, but he's not the enemy. Nor is he a reason why "people all over the world hate Americans."

The reason we are hated worldwide is BushCo and his cohorts in congress, the media, Robertson/Dobson/Falwell and their ilk, and a host of other despicable wingnuts who control the media and the message.

Jerry Springer is not the problem. He's trying, to the best of his ability, to be part of the solution. (He sucks at it, but he's not the problem.)

As inept as he may be, turn your venom toward the Cheneys, Dobsons, Limbaughs, Scalias, and so many other members of the Bush crime family too numerous to mention.

37. Sorry, but Springer IS one of the reasons why some foreigners hate our
country. All it takes is for someone from overseas to tune into one of his RIDICULOUS shows to make the assumption that The Springer Show represents part of what America stands for....rich people taking advantage of poor people to make themselves a bundle of money. That's what his dumbass show was all about. Maybe you're not embarrassed by him and his past antics, but I am.

Worst thing AAR ever did... punches huge holes in the fabric of their basic credibility...
Springer sucks. Everything he touches turns to shit... the fact that he makes a profit in the deal doesn't impress me in the least.

He's a moron. He's either naive, or, at best, gullible beyond belief.

If Jerry Springer represents a certain type of liberal, then there's a reason why the Democratic party is having troubles winning elections; praising your enemies is not very bold. Who idolizes a white-flag waivers? We celebrate Alexander Hamilton and George Washington, not Cornwallis.

He makes Alan Colmes seem like a liberal fighter. Pitiful.
