Most of them were renters. I heard that stat on C-SPAN or MS-NBC this AM. If that is true, who will end up with most of the money? It will not be poor people and it will not be the laborers they ask to rebuild. It will be the same old people - Halliburton, Bechtel, etc... Joe Allbaugh will come out of this mess fairly wealthy would be my guess...

1. Heard the same on NPR
I fear that you're right; look for mcmansions, mccondos, and Starbucks on every corner. :(

2. Those people whose property was destroyed will
probably receive compensation for it. They may rebuild, or they may sell their property and move.

I rent. My possessions are worth less than the building they're in. Paying me for my losses won't provide housing. If we flooded and the building was destroyed, the people owning the building would get far more money than I would.

3. Lots of relief for those poor pitiful homeless landlords. Not so much
for their displaced, newly impoverished tenants.

4. This is going to be mostly welfare for the wealthy...
..and people will be poorer after it is "rebuilt"...With the Bush plan, it will be a another massive transfer of wealth, just like Iraq, unfortunately.
