Is anyone else worried about the missing Katrina children & pedophiles?
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 01:22 PM by glarius
They have to show pictures on TV of the children who are separated from their families...I realize there is nothing else that can be done. ..But from the beginning, when they first started showing them, I have felt uneasy...wondering if any of the sickos who prey on kids are finding a way of connecting with these children, while posing as family or caregivers.....I pray there are safeguards in place to protect the children....

1. I wasn't...until you brought it up.
Seriously, they need to track down all these kids asap.
They shouldn't have to endure any more of this torture.

3. you worry too much
i suggest you read a book called "the culture of fear".

there really aren't that many "sickos". those that exist are sensationalized. law & order SVU is fiction.

6. There are enough "sickos" so that I wouldn't brush it off as lightly as
you do....I'm wondering if there are safeguards, that's all I'm saying....Seeing as how so much has been screwed up.

9. true, much has been screwed up.
but most children who are molested are molested by family members, right?

how will safeguards against a non-family member/sex predators "claiming" children protect the majority of these children against the most common form of child molestation?

what you are worrying about is statistically unlikely, but of course, not 100% preventable.

8. I don't know what world you live in but there are plenty of them
and plenty of us can testify to it! If it makes you comfortable
to be in denial--go for it. But you're not fooling many of us who
read and have experienced it.

jeez louise.

how many is "plenty"? how many of them are watching the TV planning on going to the authorities, pretending to be someone they're not, backing it up with false documentation? this isn't SE asia.

i dodged a child molestor/stranger in Cincy growing up, so, yes, i know that they exist.

11. I don't know if you remember it,
but after the tsunami, several girls were raped rather than helped by men who found them. There were also reports of paedophiles and pimps picking up young boys and girls who didn't have any family, and assaulting them. While some dismissed this as part of Asia's sex industry, I don't soubt there are a number of sickos deciding that Katrina presents opportunities to find victims.

5. Sadly, that is a valid concern.
Pedophiles were flocking to the tsunami disaster areas, looking for lost children. I remember there was a news thread in LBN about it.

Utterly disgusting.

One thing I've been curious about are the people here that were pissed when Florida announced that convicted sex offenders had to go to separate hurricane shelters than the general public... I mean, in light of children being raped in the Superdome.

7. I wouldnt be overly concerned
We hear about these sensational cases of strangers molesting and killing children, every once in a while, but children are far more likely to killed and abused by their own parents than anything else.
