Anybody--what federal land was Bush referring to in his speech
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 02:20 PM by Inland
for homesteading in the hurricane area?

That's still the most bizarre part of the speech--that we were going to increase homeownership by giving away federal lands. WHAT federal lands? Where are they, and who ever suggested anyone wanted to live in them in the first place?

Is there some huge federal reservation around there, or was Bush just channelling some Wyoming call to use fed lands?

2. Which also doesn't make sense
Why would "rebuiling" an urban area include building over parks? Nobody wants to live in an area without parks. So Bush is going to, what, build over parks and make parks out of the areas that are abandoned?

Weird.

7. Thanks, I got my answer.
There may be two DOD installations. But since those are economic pluses, it's hard to see them getting opened up.

There's also some Fish And Wildlife preserves in area, which probably means swamp or tidal pool and hurricane bait.

6. There is Federal property in most cities
beyond parks though I wouldn't put it past him to try to use them to build on. Any federal building they decide not to replace could be Social Security sites, military sites, etc and my guess federal housing projects. Instead of rebuilding federal housing for the poor give a few some land to build on and screw the rest of them. And the poorest of the poor will not be able to get a mortgage to build anything so they will be left out.:grr: Habitat for Humanity as good as they are still requires that the future homeowners be able to pay a low interest mortgage.
