So if they dismantle Roe v. Wade, then what?
Do they all cheer and celebrate like they did after the election?
Rub it in our faces, that they won? What are they winning, exactly? Please tell me...I don't get it.

After the election, there were some so classless that they were saying things in public like,'it's a day for celebrating!'

:wtf: What does that mean? What the hell do they win?

1. Then every woman who dies from a botched Abortion
will have a sister, brother, father, or lover off buying a gun to shoot them a Republican with.

It might even get me to watch the evening news again.

12. In that case, they may want to re-think gun control legislation first...

2. someone told me a couple of months back
that the RW only cares about people before they are born and after they are dead (guess the unborn and the dead can't speack to tell the RW the truth). Do you think that maybe the RW can't stand being told that there is a reality out there?

Q: What's George Bush's position on Roe v. Wade?

A: He really doesn't care how people get out of New Orleans.

9. Won't happen, for the same reason they'll never catch Osama
Abortion is a carrot-on-a-stick for them. The issue nets the repugs billions in campaign contributions every year. If that issue goes away, so does all that precious money.

It's in the same category as flag burning and gay marriage. It's a huge treasure trove for the Republicans, but nothing more. It never will be.

...hoping to get enough credit from the capture for a boost. Hell, the prez' poll numbers are so low right now, they might try catching him now.

11. They've been dismantling it all along
Doesn't the Supreme Court hear a new abortion challenge like 50 times a month?

 Seems like another smokescreen to me. Instead of just chipping away at it, I wish they'd just flat out reverse it. As long as people think these "key" rights we have are intact, no one mobilizes or screams about the rights that get taken away while we're not looking.

17. Welcome to DU, mestup--
I think you make a good point. Too many people allow themselves to be falsely comforted by the talking points and take the rights for granted.

I disagree, I don't want to see it dismantled, even if it meant people might 'wake up.' But I understand what you have said.

I'd like to hope that other democrats, liberals and progressives would know better than to take anything for granted, particularly under this administration.

14. It would be a good day for Democrats; a bad day for women's rights.
A good day for Democrats? Yep.

Roe v. Wade is one of those hot button issues Republicans have been using for years to divide our natural base (working class folk, the poor). How else do you get a person living in a double-wide to vote for tax exemptions for corporations and rich people?

Once Roe v. Wade is overturned people will start voting their economic interests again. The one thing all Republican politicians have in common is that they represent the rich and powerful vs. "the little guy".

A bad day for women's rights because folks in anti-choice states (like Texas) will have to go to pro-choice states (California, Colorado, etc.) to get abortions.

My prediction is that the rates of abortion in the US will not decrease; just the locations.

28. I think the "good day for Democrats" wins,
given the way Roe v Wade has been hacked and chipped at by back-door means. It's just "barely" a right as it is now.

Unless they're personally involved in their own, or someone else's, abortion dilemma, most Americans aren't aware of how difficult individual states are making the process anyway. I sure wasn't.

http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/yourstate/whodecides/states/index.cfm

If you choose a random state, say Idaho:
"93 percent of Idaho counties have no abortion provider"

So, essentially, the bad day for women's rights has already been happening. I have to wonder if (especially at this point) getting people back to voting their economic interests wouldn't serve the greater good.

15. It goes back to the Several States
And the affluent, as with everything, will always have choice.

Businesses sprout up providing transportation, food, and accomodations for a modest fee working with a doctor in the closest choice state. Back-alley-coat-hanger will not be necessary in anti abortion states since some sort of mechanism for getting the poor and those with limited means to facilities where the procedure is legal will crop up.

Then the fun starts when the fight begins between the states and whether or not they can limit their own citizens from entering another state for the procedure and The Court has to sort out whether Jane Shmoe from Oklahoma can be arrested upon her return from Ohio.

And the issue continues its political festering of our culture.

21. Not necessarily - depends on how far the ruling goes
If they go the whole distance and not only overturn Roe but also rule that abortion = murder, it would be illegal everywhere. Most say that is unlikely but that is exactly what right wingers have been preaching for years.

27. Yes, how scary is that?
That's part of why the Schiavo case was so important to them.

I just don't see what they have to gain by politicizing women's bodies, and criminalizing abortion...

So beyond me...

22. The "war on abortion" is the same kind of enterprise at the WOD, WOT, etc.
The "warriors" have no interest in "winning" any of these so-called conflicts because a victory (?!) would put them out of a job. In a way, it is like the way light bulbs* are made...it's easy to make them to last 50 years but there's no repeat business.

* Substitute any of a thousand other products or activities pursued under the principle of 'planned obsolescence'...

What happens to pro choice christians like myself?
What happens to the disabled people that need stem cell research
What happens to the gblt community who will become the next victims
of the rights target hatred?
Will the democratic party become more splintered and fractured and the greens eat up more votes?
What will happen to the RCRC.org?

Fears a very powerful thing. You take a god filled soul and you fill it with devils and dust- Bruce Springsteen.

30. It goes to the state legislatures and Republicans get butchered in local
elections for siding with what will be seen as the extreme side of the issue or risk losing their fanatic base and getting butchered as well that way. That's why they want Roe to stay. They love it as a political issue.
