Why are they having these confirmation hearings for John Roberts?
If the 14 Senators (Gang of 14) had come to an agreement that if the nominee is not too radical, they will appoint whom ever is the nominee. Now, question is, Why are they having these confirmation hearings for John Roberts? Seems like a waste of time to me. Please enlighten me. This is my interruption, please tell me if I am missing something.

1. Well, to determine if he is too radical or not.
I don't know if I understand the question. Roberts isn't the sort of person we want on the court - he may not be "too radical." but that doesn't mean that he isn't in the pocket of big business and an opposer of government regulation. (which by the way is a bigger problem than what he thinks of abortion in my opinion).

We need to use the hearings to underline what Asshole Republicans think about justice and government and what we think about justice and government.

2. Thanks for the response.
But, what from what I understand, the agreement between the 14 Senators says, if the nominee does not show to be too far left or too far right, he/she will be selected to the SCOTUS. Now, if that is the case, the devil could sit in front of the Senate, answer questions and seem to be the logical, open-minded, and qualified person for the job. Because, on the surface he does not seem to be too far left or right, he will get a pass. I am just trying to find out, if this is true or not. Because, the few times I've had a chance to listen to the hearing, it seems to me that John Roberts is dancing around the questions the Democratic Senators are asking, and the Republican Senators are lobbing softballs.

3. I agree with you....this country is great for having hearings,....
commissions, inquiries etc. yet in the end they accomplish absolutely nothing. They only tell us what THEY want us to hear.
