Does it seem odd to anyone that Bush doesn't have any friends?
This struck me over the weekend. We have never heard of an "old buddy" visiting with W or him mentioning anything about spending time with old friends. I seems that all of his "friends" are people who used to work for his Dad. He hangs out a lot with his Dad which is nice in a way but you would think he has someone his own age to hang out with (such as the officeholder of the Presidency can).

Didn't he form any friendships in prep school or at Yale/Harvard?

I know they tried and succeeded (thanks to the press) in distancing him as far as possible from that "elite" background but you would think we would see someone he has known for a while show up when he is on one of his extreme vacations.

Perhaps they don't let anyone know who his friends are as dots could be connected to others and to what is going on.

It just seems odd to me.

35. you hit the nail on the head
bullies don't have the social skills to make friends that's why their so mean. They think if they act important and terriorize everyone that people won't notice they don't have friends.
Of course it is always someone elses fault it can't be anything they do or that there might be something wrong with them.
Both ends of the spectrum (bully and victim) have social skills problems that need to be dealt with.

besides that, he's a sleazy loser. You have to be a decent person to have friends. If you spend your life screwing people over and being dishonest and sleazy, you're just not going to have any real friends.

I believe he hosted a party for some old Yale friends. Some of whom refused to show up because, well, they hate him now.

26. I don't think that qualifies as friends--it was just an invitation
to all in his alumni class who were going to be in New Haven for a reunion anyway. And it's true that a lot of people gave it a pass.

6. Name some of Clinton's "old buddies"
It used to be said that Jobnny Carson was "odd" because off-stage, he seemed to be uninterested in being with other people, and was content to be alone with his wife.

My theory (about J. Carson) is that he has such a clear understanding of human nature that he'd just as soon not be bothered with having to deal with so much of the phoniness and hypocrisy that surrounds much of our relationships with other people.

13. Mary Steamburgen and he befriended Greg Norman
The couple that created "Friends"I think and they were "image consultants"

The Greg Norman story was one I remember because I heard Norman come out on the air (golf tournament) and said something nasty about Clinton, something about taxes. The next thing I hear Clinton fell and hurt his knee ( or ankle) at 3AM walking into Norman's sunken living room. ;) ;)

Clinton must have won him over.

10. last night...
They made it a point in the Cubs/Braves game to say that the Braves'
Julio Franco is a 'close personal friend of George W. Bush'. They said it
several times as the Braves had their *sses handed to them (oops,
that just slipped out!).

I guess they became friends while he was playing for Texas from '89-'93.
He's getting old (42) for a ball player...mebbee come Jan 2005 (or sooner!),
he can hang out with his pal Dubya back at his Crawford Ranch, talking old
times and baseball on the porch.

11. I hate to admit this but.....
I am friends with a woman who has know both he and Laura since grade school. I was at a party with her last weekend and I asked her about it. She is a strong Democrat. She told me that they do not discuss his politics because they are so opposite but she loves him dearly. I left the conversation after that because I just could not take it and didn't really want to hear anymore. She is not a rich person nor a big business person but they remain in frequent contact, probably mostly through Laura. I like this woman, she is a good person but this just left me cold.

And they've hobnobbed a bit with the Bushes when he was Texas gov. (They live in Texas) My mom even has a photo of herself with the Bushes in her office. Makes me want to puke every time I see it. I never ask her about it, though, because I know I would end up yelling at her in a fight.

Thank God my Dad's a good democrat at least.

15. That's how I felt about Leona Helmsley
You remember, the hotel owner's wife who was called The Queen Of Mean and said, "Only little people pay taxes"? The thing that fascinated me about her trial was that she didn't seem to have any supporters. If there was a group of friends and family appearing at the courtroom daily to lend moral support, the press didn't mention it! Even Robert "The Preppie Murderer" Chambers had a cheering section. It really does say something about you when you're that friendless.

19. Bush Has No Freinds Because He Is A Malignant Narcissist
Trust me here folks because I am currently grinding with my teeth on edge to rid my life of one. These people are morally and ethically deprived they only enlist folks into their lives because they are seeking supply.

Supply you might ask what the fuck is that? I'll tell you what it is it is gaining the support of someone to feed the narcissist's lying behaviour.

These creeps need adoration as much as a normal human needs air. So since these fucks are shallow and manipulative shits they lie about themselves seeking to gain a bit of an edge it works until the person they've deceived wakes up.

Most are very accomplished liars. They have done it their entire lives. It is very hard to detect at first but once the liar is exposed it is very difficult to put the lid back on.

When their once friend wakes up all bets are off and the fangs come out. And the fangs bite deep. Now the liar plays a new game. It's called making the victim go crazy. The lies continue at a fast and furious pace throwing the victim off balance and screaming for the shit to stop. It is a form of "gaslighting." As in now making the victim think he/she is nuts.

When the real victim of this shit says please stop you are hurting me the narcissist(the fuckers they are) act like they are the victim.

It is a very twisted and sick mental disorder and Bush has it in spades.

I think I am an intelligent and informed person yet one of these fucks has wormed his way into my life.

My narcissist has no friends. They can't have friends because all they do is TAKE. And to top it off they are vile and bitter. Who can make friends with that?

Bush and my creep are tied at the hip.

Gawd they are true fuckwittage. Trust me it is hard to deal with them.

34. You give a fair description of narcissists - they lie about everything
Used to have one in my life, and he'd lie about what he had for lunch - because the less people knew about him, the more he could get by with. He used to brag that there were 20 people who thought he was their best friend, but that none of them really knew him at all. A narcissist has no conscience or sense of guilt, so don't waste time asking him to stop hurting you. Just get out of Dodge!

23. He's far too much of a "Christian" for 'friends'.
Human "friends" are full of human failings, and being as Bush is a TOTALLY SINCERE, GOD-FEARING, BORN-AGAIN CHRISTIAN whose "faith is an integral part" of his life, he can't sully his morality and purity with the bad influences of friends who might consume alcohol or perform the sexual act. Political operatives, sycophants and henchmen make much better company then friends, and don't destroy your beautiful "faith" by telling you things you don't want to hear.

i don't have a clue if you are a regular on the relifgion/anti threads so i'm not going to assume this was intentional but your post could easily be construed as a real slap at the christian community here at DU.

bush doesn't represent christians as a whole as far as i can see and your implication that christians in general have no friends is really pretty insulting or i'm assuming so since i'm agnostic so can't say for sure.

25. I think that Dan Evans is his best friend.
Dan was one of the men at Bush's OUT-OF-STATE HOTEL 40th birthday party where he got drunk and then decided to quit drinking.

Has anyone here ever heard of a married man with children celebrating a birthday at an out-of-state hotel with a bunch of drunken buddies? Gee, I wonder if there was any female "companionship?"

I saw this on the news last week, but there was no mention of who at Fannie Mae collected the award.

Perhaps it was Victor Ashe - another one of chimpster's Yalie boyfriends

And Pickles was out of town all last week;-)

29. hmmm
I have the opposite impression. I think the Bushes have a lot of friends from old networks. She has friends of her own, but he also has pals. I've often wondered how they manage the rolodex.

Keep in mind that pathological narcissists (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) are known to be charming people. They have a huge capacity to attract people and to manipulate them.
