I apologize if this has already been posted, but I would like to see this man for myself. Of course, we all know that talk is cheap, but I'd like to see him to get a feel for who he really is.
As a fundy Republican, I was taught that all leftists were evil. I still don't have any respect for Fidel Castro because he appointed himself dictator for life. Sorry, but that's enough to strike him off the list of good guys. I've been amused--and a bit dismayed--by the Fidel worship I've seen on DU. Maybe he's not "that bad" as far as dictators go, but he's still a dictator. That doesn't mean I think we shouldn't normalize relations with Cuba. After all, we're trading with the godless Chinese, right? :) Why not trade with the godless Cubans while we're at it?
Chavez was duly elected (unless Venezuela has its own version of DIEBOLD), so he has some legitimate power to carry out the wishes of his people. I'd like to know more about what he says and what he's doing so I can make up my own mind about this guy. A reasonable mix of socialism and capitalism would help the United States become a better place to live. If this is what Chavez is about, I'd like to get a better idea of him and his policies.
Thanks.
