Republican Social Security reform was defeated
Only because Democrats, liberal and moderate formed a united front against the destructive privitization plan disguised as reform. I'd say nearly every Democrat in Congress opposed the plan and that was great. It didn't even have to come up for a vote, before it was defeated. Democrats need to show the same resolve for other issues in order to win the '06 elections.

1. No back patting allowed/premature congratulations
He would have rammed it through but for a small wee tiny wind in the south gulf coast. He still controls the GOpers in Congress, and without his total phuckup of that situation, he would have had his political operators push, blackmail, threaten, twist arms and more.

It was outside forces more than some of democratic leaders.

2. No, I think the Repukes realized it was political suicide
All their propagandizing was not working, in fact it was backfiring. Opposition grew the more they spoke about it.

4. Sad, too, since Social Security does need some fixing . . .
Just not the kind of "fixes" that would have poured trillions of dollars into his Wall Street buddies' pockets.

Hopefully the issue can be raised again when/if criminals are no longer in control of the government.

3. a tiny wind named Katrina
it's true, they phucked it up themselves by thinking Katrina was just another hurricane and grossly under reacted.

But this is just one more phuck up in a long list of phuck ups by this administration! Is there any logical reason to assume that somewhere down the line, they'll get it right at some point?

6. I won't argue that- to the contrary, they will always get it wrong
but, my point was that SS Deform was not dead and buried, rather the shrub was about to start a fool court press, the first step being his carefully honed public visits.

Hmmm. I wonder. was it shrub or his handlers that tried to keep the public far away from him for the past 5 yrs? If it is him, (I give it 30% chance) he has no excuse. If the handlers were afraid to let him out because of his "carefully honed" persona, etc., then they have phucked themselves. Now that the sheiss is really flying they cannot avoid it, and he is completely unprepared to deal with it.

if he ever was able to, that is.

8. This is good...
It's good to see that Democrats were united on an issue and they were able to block SS privatization with the help of some moderate Republicans. I agree that this should help them in the 2006 elections.

11. I agree there was cooperation, but I disagree to what extent
yes, the sleepwalking dems had either a REM or a waking moment, but until the raindrops, there was no guarantee that drastic, evil unwarranted destruction of the SS system would not happen.

Remember who is our Secretary of Shoes and State
Remember who is our UN representative
Remember who is fucking up the Whirled bank
Remember who is VP in charge of Haliburton profit insurance.
Remember who runs HSA
Remember who is SecDeaf

lastly, remember who is president.

The neoconmen control the exec, congress and the judiciary. What prevents them from driving through SS reform EXCEPT Ms. Katrina?

12. yes, this fight serves as a good model
they seem to be following a similar model with Katrina, by talking about boycotting the GOP whitewash. We need to give them as much support with that one as the many groups supported the dems on Social Security.

And after reading Dean's statement on Roberts, I think there's a chance they may surprise everyone and fight Bush hard on that one.
