Will there be bipartisan agreement to revise posse comitatus?!?!
The article with Republican Senator John Warner hinting that posse comitatus should be 'revisited' alarmed me. The last thing we need is to give Bush and Rummy free reign to use the army for domestic policing purposes.

But to find this older story about Senator Biden suggesting basically the same thing a few years ago (albeit in the aftermath of 9-11, but nonetheless) is also very alarming.

A foot in the door in the aftermath of the levee break in New Orleans, and much ado about 'looting', could easily lead to the most powerful police state the world has ever seen.

Of course, it might end up uniting some rightwing and leftwing factions in objecting to it, but aside from that, there would be little to stop them??

1. I find it very hard to believe that things could get quite that bad.
I know lots of veterans and there is no way the vast majority are that brainwashed. I also think that most Americans would finally say "enough". I could be deluding myself but I do believe that.

2. hard to believe BUT:
I also think that most Americans would finally say "enough".

I worry that by the time that happens, it will be too late.

3. I think it would be gradual. Easy for covert ops to stir up a little chaos
in the big cities, bring in the troops to quell the 'gang violence'. They are already making a big deal out of the 'm15' gangs 'entering the United States' from Central America.

At first, they'd find ways to give it a veneer of legality. Eventually people would be accustomed to it. The media could be counted upon to play it up as a necessary and helpful way to deal with the post-9-11 world.

I suspect that this is considered a desirable outcome by many powerful people.

Have you been out of town while the Bush/Cheney regime has overthrown Democracy?

11. No sir, been here the whole time.
Too many people on our side. Only half us voted for these thugs. And more come over to our side every day. Plus, the troops are not automatons- they're Americans too. Peace.

5. Biden's 100% DLC. Warner's worse. I believe it.
They shouldn't be anywhere near an elected office.

8. I think there should be a microscope review of the administration.
BEFORE we make it easier for the government to commit TREASON against We The People. Frankly Senator Warner should be hanged for treason just for hinting at it. If it's discussed. I want M-16's, rocket launchers, tanks, and a few nuclear bombs to supplement my personal security. I do have a right to be secure in my person.

10. Haven't been there in a while but it's a great country. Good food,
great museums, nice (though more reserved then mexican or guatemalan) people. Really a 2nd world country. Medium priced and scenery to die for. Good choice. We've considered it also. Not sure they'd be very fond of Americans there right now.

14. Not sure it will be very pleasant anywhere in Latin America if this
government keeps heading the way it is. We're looking at Thailand. Pretty corrupt government there too but doesn't affect you so much. Also fairly wealthy, good services and healthcare and reasonably priced. Also, GREAT BEACHES!!
