What do conservatives think the rich owe society?
It seems the only thing they think the wealthy have to contribute is to invest and hire household help (which is often illegal--something most righties politely ignore).

I read a while back that when Nelson Rockefeller was being confirmed as vice president, it was revealed he had paid NO income tax for seven years, not because he was cheating, just all the loopholes given the rich.

Why is it so hard for righties to figure out the idea of progressive taxation? Or is it just that they think they are going to win the lottery and be rich right quick too?

Incidently, every time the GOP talks about tax cuts or especially the estate tax, someone needs to ask them why they are catering to rich crybabies.

Would being taxed a few more percent crimp their lifestyle at all? No. Could that same few percent reduce the student-teacher ratio in a crappy school or build a levee in New Orleans?

Is the harm we are doing ourselves worth to placate a handful of crybabies? We don't want to throw them out of their estates, put their heads on sticks, and fuck their polo ponies--we just want them to pay their fair share.

(If you want to do that polo pony thing, I won't stop you though)

6. killing people doesn't help as often as you'd think--look at Iraq War
Bushies thought they could kill enough Iraqis to scare them away from the oil.

Didn't work.

7. Your subject line is slightly off.
It should be "why do conservatives think they own society?"

:)

That then makes the answer to your question: nothing. They think that they own everything, so they owe the rest of us nothing.

10. They'll climb on the band wagon soon enough. Republican
leaders met at the Heritage Foundation this weekend. Once they figure out that they can funnel $200 billion into their own coffers and rebuild NO in as a white Republican city, they'll all be shouting for government spending!!

12. I have begun to look at it differently. If the top 2% are involved in
a class war, then the lower-class Conservatives are also targeted. What makes them stay with the Conservatives? I recently read that 38% of the nation are racists. There is your base. Racist Conservatism.

Who is always talking personal initiative and responsibility? The Conservatives. Who wants to ditch affirmative action programs? The Conservatives. Who is always preaching about the "welfare queens" (and does anyone here think that "black" is not an "understood" adjective?) Even wanting to pull out of the UN is somewhat racists. I have heard people in my red area say that they do not think that the "3rd World Countries" should have any saying about what the US does. 3rd world to many of these yahoos means "non-white."

We cannot make a headway into the Conservative base. It is a racist base. They have been bought with hatred, and promises of non-existent racial entitlement and wealth (tax cuts.)

14. Not giving corporations and the rich what they want 70 googolplex-fold =
COMMUNISM!!!

Like you said, all we ask is that they pay their fair share, which they are NOT doing now, and if anyone thinks they are, they're a damned stupid MFer. The book Perfectly Legal explains in full detail the many ways that the ridiculously rich have every advantage under the sun over the rest of the country and still continue to soak us in any way possible to keep that ride going, using politicians and government as the washing machine.

15. They
owe society nothing, for they ARE society by virtue of being superior to everybody else because they are rich.

Everyone else is supposed to owe them everything.
