Is there a Katrina support group here on DU?
Would there be anyone wanting to participate in one?

A support and information gathering place?

I'm currently trying to find information and maybe an info clearing house type forum would be helpful.

Like my daughter called me in tears and wants to leave Biloxi, but she doesn't want to miss school. She wants to try to get in college here in Missouri. She had just started nursing school the week before Katrina. The Southern Miss Long Beach facility was highly damaged and will be announcing classes elsewhere.

I'm trying to find what schools are offering to refugees who are missing out on a semester of college because of the storm.

Information like this is what people displaced in many communities will be needing. DU is an amazing network of caring people. Maybe a sharing of info would be helpful to many.

1. Oklahoma City University
is offering free tuition. It's a small private school. It has some great programs. Southern Miss/Long Beach was mentioned as one of the schools that would get free tuition ( it's usually a very expensive school too! )

7. Thanks!
Also, the waiver is not just for a semester or two. It is for as long as they remain registered at UW.

8. I like your idea.
I would participate. I'm not over Katrina and don't know if I will be for a long time if ever. Of course the media and * have glossed over like everything's all back to normal, but we all know better around here.

11. Anyone else that is "starred" want to participate in a Katrina group?
I really feel the need to cosolidate info.

My current search is for potential legal aid in the MS Gulf coast area. I may have to avail myself of some.
