The Republicans tend to forget the "Promote the general welfare"

Reagan's presidency 25 years ago proved that they don't care about anyone but themselves. Screw education, social programs, and the lower and middle classes.

Basically they have failed to uphold the constitution in any sense.

6. remember the 60's, the early 70's?

i recall reading that the deficit spending of those years (and c'mon, even carter's last $58 billion deficit hardly impacted a multi trillion dolar economy)...anyway, granting that the 'liberal' spending era occurred at all, even then, the money went to people...to health, education and infrastructure, which paid off in the go go 80's and 90's with one of the best educated and confident generations ever, which saw entire tech world revolutionized (20 years ago, you couldn't do this, what we're doing, even if you were rich!)....the real problem is that the press is yellow; it lies for political reasons and is cowardly against fatso thugs while bullyboys among those who cannot fight them......

7. My 10 y.o. daughter just did Consitution i school. Said same to teacher!

Friday last week my daughter told me they were doing the preamble to the Constitution and when they got to this point, my daughter said to the teacher that "General Welfare" part didn't seem to apply to the treatment of the people in Louisiana. I was so proud of her!

She also drew the GREATEST satirical cartoon of the Lady Justice with a blindfold, ignoring the cries of the people in LA because they had just learned the phrase "Justice is Blind". She knows she is being brainwashed at school.

9. Republicans are made of of two kinds of people...

The rich who, by virtue of their wealth, are very well educated (or have the power to onboard the well-educated to do their bidding) and who, through various means, control the second kind of republican - the ignorant moron, victim of marketing, jingoistic non-thinkers.

If the elite sense a threat to their control, such as with wild-eyed revolutionary ideas like "promoting the general welfare", they develop a propaganda campaign to turn the second variety against itself and anyone that would take a position contrary to the official line.

11. No way. Bush protects and defends promoting ...

He swore he would protect the Constitution, so you know he must be following through on that oath. He's a "good Christian man" and a straight talker. Our liberty blessings have never felt more secure. Our constitution is in good hands.

can work.........the cost of such child care, even with low wages paid to the caregivers, makes it often impossible for low wage-earners to afford

there was some talk of possible govt subsidy, etc

some yuppie-type woman (who was youngish + probably childless) speaking for the CATO Institute (libertarian) said she couldn't understand how people could even discuss a govt subsidy.....'after all, child-care is never mentioned in the constitution'!!!!!!!

......no 'promote the general welfare' here
