Please -- Your help is needed for Sept 24 march!
Edited on Sat Sep-17-05 09:41 PM by theHandpuppet
My partner and I put out an offer to house those traveling to D.C. for the Sept 24 march. Problem is, we are getting more requests than we can handle, even though we are 70 miles west of D.C. That gives you an idea of just how scarce space is now for march participants!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if you have a room/floor space/camping space to spare for only a weekend, go to any number of organizational sites where housing boards are listed. And if anyone out there can help with my immediate problem, please PM me.

Here are just some of the sites where you can offer space:

PLEASE KEEP THIS KICKED!

1. When Laura Flanders interviewed George Galloway last week
Edited on Sat Sep-17-05 10:04 PM by rocknation
he said that when he traveled to DC to testify, he stayed at "the worst hotel in the world." He'd booked it off the Internet because he was traveling at his own expense and "it looked nice." But when his cab pulled up in front of it, there were "guys with wine bottles" hanging around, and the cabbie warned him not to go out after dark in the jacket he was wearing because he'd get killed for it! I laughed my head off until he mentioned the name and location of the hotel--it's the same one I booked off the Internet for September 24!

4. Wow -- be careful out there!

This is exactly one of the reasons my partner and I decided to offer some space for the 24th March. Even though we live a distance from D.C., looking for space a little farther out gives you a lot of options and it's still a short trip to the D.C. Metro which can take you right to the Mall. Plus, it's safer AND cheaper!

For those still looking for hotels and don't mind a place a bit farther out, try the following: Winchester, VA; Martinsburg, WVA and Hagerstown or Frederick, MD. All of these places have ample hotels and are close to the interstates.

13. Is your hotel on New York Avenue?
I was going to get one there, but was warned against it because it could get dangerous at night. And I intend to be out at night, so I opted for another location.

10. Yes, I will. Things are getting a bit desperate!
I've also posted to the state fora of WVA and VA for help but so far no response. I can't imagine how many people have nowhere to sleep for the march weekend. My partner and I have received requests to house up to 14 people and we just can't do it -- not enough bathrooms. (And we live 70+ miles outside D.C.)

Please, folks -- if you have any place for a marcher to sleep, please post to one of the housing boards. Some of the links are posted earlier in this thread.

14. Since I first made this post...
My partner and I have gotten even more requests for housing from across the country and Canada. We are turning people away and there are lots of folks who need a place to sleep if they're to travel to D.C. for the march and rally.

Please visit one of the housing boards for the Sept 24th march and offer some sleeping space! Also, there are several folks we have personally had to turn away, so if you can help out with a couple of folks, please PM me.

Thanks!
