Here We Go Again -- Tropical Storm Philippe & TD 18
From weather.com's Hurricane Central...

An area of low pressure north of Hispaniola has organized enough to become Tropical Depression 18. T.D. 18 is forecast to become a tropical storm in the next 24 hours at which time it would be given the name Rita. The center of this system is located about 95 miles east-northeast of Grand Turk Island and it is moving towards the west-northwest at 10 mph. Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the Turks and Caicos and the central and southeast Bahamas. Hurricane watches are now in effect for the northwest Bahamas. After moving through the Bahamas this system could threaten portions of South Florida and the Keys by late Monday and Tuesday.

Tropical Depression 17 has become Tropical Storm Philippe about 485 miles east-southeast of the Leeward Islands. This is the 16th named storm of the season and is earliest date on record that the Atlantic Basin has seen 16 named storms. This tropical depression is currently moving to the north-northwest near 5 mph. It appears at this time that Philippe will have minimal impacts on the Lesser Antilles, however the central and northern Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of Philippe over the next several days....

3. Yep... at this point what more can we say?
I'm not a Lounge visitor but at this point I'm sure pretty much the same thing is running through our minds right now.

I'm very worried about TD18 (soon to become Rita). If it only brushes the Keys, where does it go from there? None of the meterologists seem to be talking about that right now.

7. Have we ever had to use the Greek alphabet before?
What's the record for named storms in a single season?

We'd tie it with Wilma.

I'm not a meterologist....I just googled that, so don't take my word for it 100%.

4. I think we'll run out of names
I think Phillipe is the more minimal threat as it looks like it'll stay a bit farther out at sea but I wouldn't ignore it. I think tropical depression 18 is a much bigger threat. It'll become Rita and could hit florida and then go into the gulf.

8. Once we run through our alphabet, they go to the Greek alphabet
Hurricane Alpha, Beta and so forth.

I agree with you about Rita (now TD 18). That one has me worried.

6. I'm worried about Stan
That's the next one. I used to have a partner named "Stash". And he used to be our bosses bodyguard too. Baddest motherfucker you could ever meet. Any storm named after him has got to be awesome.

10. LOL....watch FEMA actually move their asses on these two

I'm hoping they overreact....bring busses to evacuate poor and elderly....have the food, water, ice, and med supplies ready before...ect.

If bush blows this one, he'd really be fucking toast, I know we here in DU have said that a million times, but I think bush knows he'd better do a hell of a lot better job on the next one.

13. TD 18 is the one to worry about
Philippe looks like it is heading the way of Lee, Maria, Nate i.e. being dragged away from the US to the North by the Gulf Stream. TD 18 looks like it is going into the Gulf. Remember Katrina was a Category 1 Hurricane as it passed over Florida. It became a category 5 when it hit the warm waters of the Gulf. The same will happen to TD18, the warm water will heat it up, the real question is HOW far up the scale will it become.

14. Yep....that's the one that has me worried

I'm in West Palm Beach, also....there's a chance it could hit me as a CAT 1,2, or 3. However, I'm more worried of what it would do if it got into the gulf.

19. It's ok, not mine, yours was in other forum. No need for dupes in 1 forum
It is understandable when there are duplicates in separate forums, especially since not every one has search capability and when the forums are busy, as these times are.

However, I fail to see why there are so many duplicate threads within a single forum when the threads they duplicate are current and on the first page. An example was the John Bush drunk arrest.

Duplication of threads dilutes effort.
