Tavis Smiley: "Poverty is a weapon of mass destruction"...
caught this comment on the PBS jazz thing tonight on PBS. haven't seen his nightly show much as it is a bit late, and didn't like him bumping Charlie Rose either, but glad to hear him say this on the fund raiser from DC.

Reminds me of the Leonard Cohen line, "Now you can say that I've grown bitter but of this you may be sure, the RICH HAVE GOT THEIR CHANNELS in the bedrooms of the poor." (Tower of Song - Cohen)If you don't get that lyric, think about it some more :-)

4. It is a powerful & true statement, whomever said it first
...I happen to like Rev Sharpton, too.

3. I expect that we will be hearing a lot more from Tavis
Bush*inc & the rnc *think* that they have dodged a bullet by two & a half weeks later, due to extreme political pressure, finally decide to acknowledge the needless death & suffering that was placed upon the mostly Black citizens of New Orleans.

Those rethuglican buffoons can not conceive of the coming backlash.

Because the most powerful Black voices have so far been more concerned with assisting those who still are in dire need the rethuglicans foolishly believe that those powerful voices can be contained. Fools.

We will be hearing more from Tavis and from other powerful voices from the Black community. I will add my voice to theirs. Their outrage & sorrow is mine.

6. W has said both racial inequality and poverty exists
Hold his feet to the fire if he does nothing about it. He is the first republican since Nixon to acknowledge racial injustice and poverty. Scream it as loud as you can to make him live up to his words to do something about it.
