All of the folks that assume that Chavez is a evil murdering dictator just cause he is a South American leader is driving me nuts. As if hispanic people are only capable of producing criminals, man it makes me mad!

... "evil murdering dictators" were aided and abetted by generation after generation of United States leaders. It was a bit of a shock for me to find, a while back, a quote from FDR on Anastacio Somoza's father (who held power in Nicaragua for many years): "He's a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch."

Most of these bastards didn't come to power on their own--they arrived with our help and the militaries that kept them in power were often trained at our very own School of the Americas. Pinochet, Somoza, Marco Pdrez Jimenez, Peron, Roberto D'Aubission, Juan Melgar Castro, and a long string of others....

Doesn't make much sense to me to lump Chavez in with that lot. He may not turn out to be the next incarnation of Simon Bolivar. Then again, he may (to the great chagrin of many, many of the wealthy here and in Venezuela).

Considering my track record of loving Jon Stewart, Howard Dean, and George Clooney and on and on shows that I can pick'um.

20. I like him so far

He seems to be a really great leader for Venezuela. I especially like how he's giving back land to the indigenous people of his country instead of screwing them like some of the other Latin American countries..
