Google mail and the Firefox browser
I had waited the longest time for the Gmail to open registration after its beta testing. I learned that a yahoo address was much more permanent than the half a dozen providers I have used in the last 5 years, so the permanent address at Google equalled Yahoo in that regard.

Gmail advertises a huge storage size so that you never have to eliminate anything, which is great. I mean you could send yourself pictures and there is a permanent record that would even survive your computer.

But the reason I have waited with so much anticipation is the fact that in the Firefox browser when you call up your menu with a right click, the "Send link" feature utilizes Google and no matter how many times I tried to get it to work with Yahoo mail, it just didn't.

Of course the Internet is WeThePeople's best uniter under the reality banner and any tool that helps us utilize sending links is worth announcing.

So the purpose of this thread is to remind people that Firefox is a superior browser to IE and that Gmail is now running. I have only sent test links to myself at Yahoo, but it sure saves time in sending links.

So, the question is this. Can you send an audio email with Google and how do you do it? Also, what are your thoughts on Gmail?

1. Hmmm ...

Has GMail opened its registration? It turned into such an absurdly long period of time, I gave up caring.

I checked just now, and even though, for some bizarre reason, there's a link to GMail on the Google homepage, it says it is still in Beta testing and that registrations aren't open. There does seem to be something about registering if you have a mobile phone, which I don't and never will, but that's it.

2. If you want one
there's still a few GMail invite spoolers left that haven't been shut down. I got mine off of one of them, the response was mere minutes after application.

4. Thanks for that ...

Much appreciated. I've been using a Yahoo address as my "doesn't change" e-mail account, but I don't really like Yahoo.

It took about 2 minutes for my invite to arrive.

3. I just registered tonight at gmail.com
It has an easy registration from a link at gmail.com. You do need a cell phone to display the 6-digit invitation number. I had to send it to someone elses number and I registered at his house. It is a simple registration, but you need that invitation number in the same sitting as giving the cell phone number.

It seems like Gmail was in beta forever alright. Firefox must be integrated into Gmail because if you click an email address it brings up Gmail.

5. Cell phone ...

That's odd to me. Wonder why they'd open it to cell phone users first. Probably a marketing thing I don't want to understand.

7. Need cell phone to display invitation code
It is simple as anything if you have a cell phone. It is a pain if you don't have a cell phone.

Or anyone else, for that matter. Just PM me and let me know.

I've been using Gmail since the first of September, 2004. Couldn't be happier.

I've also been using Firefox for ages.

9. Thanks ...
I got one from the link provided earlier in the thread. I appreciate the offer, though.

I'd just never bothered to ask anyone. I kept thinking, surely they'll end the Beta period eventually. Inertia set it. :-)

6. Gmail works great with the Mac OS X browser, Safari, which is also far
superior to IE. If I had a Windows computer I'd go for the Firefox browser, but I really love Safari. The Mac "mail" program is also superb and meshes seamlessly with Gmail for desktop delivery and excellent mail tools.
