3. Well, that means Florida is about to get circumcised.

So far, there is no definite danger to LA.

It's also a depression, not hurricane.

People should start planning but let's not overhype the problem until things show a sign of worsening.

It's still hurricane season; the fed and state gov't officials should know what to do in these situations. (so far, as like last year, they seem to be increasingly thick about it all...)

...Hurricane Watch issued for the Florida Keys...

At 11 am EDT...1500z...a Hurricane Watch is issued for all of the
Florida Keys from Ocean Reef southward and westward to Dry
Tortugas...including Florida Bay.


A Hurricane Watch remains in effect for the northwest Bahamas.

A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions are possible
within the watch area...generally within 36 hours.


A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the Turks and Caicos
Islands...and for the southeast and central Bahamas. A Tropical
Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected
within the warning area within the next 24 hours.


Interests elsewhere in South Florida...as well as central and
western Cuba...should closely monitor the progress of this
system.

4. These predictions are usually pretty good.

The projected path is usually a widening cone showing the margin of error, but as these margins are based on past measurements and computer modeling my recollection is that the storms tend to go right down the middle, so it looks like Florida keys on Tuesday and then to northern Mexico.

As a Houstonian, however, I'm making sure we have plenty of food and water tucked away.

6. Yes and no

early models aren't that accurate. The Katrina model was unbelievably accurate re New Orleans/Biloxi, but it was way off in the early days with regard to Florida. Miami Dade was not supposed to take a hit and according to the early models, Western Florida was next but she turned south and then north/north east. After she turned South the experts got it right and we know the rest.

They say TD#18 will be TS Rita by the 11.00am and if I was in South Florida, I'd be checking my preparation list. Dr. Steve Lyons says we could be seeing a hurricane within 48-60 hours. Watches are up in the Northern Bahamas.

7. Aiming For Crawford???

This one sorta looks like Ophelia. That was a TS before it went past Florida...and Katrina was a Cat. 1. The "fun" will be when it gets in the Gulf.

Katrina went from a busted up Cat. 1 to a 3 in a hurry and then up to a 5 as it sat in the Gulf. Those waters are still warm and any storm that gets into that water could be trouble...big trouble.

While I wish it would hone in on asshat's chicken ranch, this one looks like it's tracking into Mexico. Gulf hurricane are very devestating. There was one in the late 90's that killed hundreds of thousands in Central America...but our corporate media was too busy reporting a different blow job.

8. The closer it comes to South Florida

the more likely there will be Texas hit. Experts here ruled out Crawford since it's far inland.

There are other serious problems if this reaches the Gulf. Many ships are outside NOLA and there will be more oil worries.

One south of Cuba that looks as nasty.

I don't see these as a direct threat to NOLA...but it's sure gonna create a lot of problems in the Gulf.

10. That one should be harmless

Forecasts suggest that Phillipe's going out to sea. Should miss all the Leeward islands and Puerto Rico. We're more worried about the one behind TS Phillipe as all have missed the islands since Dennis and Emily.
