Not us. The sad reality is that until we get the money out of politics, the pay to play system excludes the people. With the exception of the wealthy of course.

There is an oligarchy in this country, they have money, power, send their children to elite private schools where annual tuition exceeds the median salary in the US. They attend the same schools, they are in the same country clubs, the only time they interact with the masses is when they are running for some office.

I also think in the extreme that Dems tend to think and not act while Republicans tend to act and not think.

I also think that if you go far enough to the left and far enough to the right, you will meet up somewhere, probably out in the woods in Idaho or something.

And (putting on flame suit) I have often felt that Democrats honored more traditionally female concepts and Republicans more tranditionally male.

Left/right, think/do .. it in endlessing interesting.

And yes, I know there are many FINE Democrat men. But in my experience they tend to be more at home with their "feminine side" and to me that is a character trait to be applauded.

Now, if I wanted to really be politically correct I would deny that there are even gender propensities in life, but I just can't go that far. I'm old. That's a new trick...hard for me.

14. Democrats are pragmatists, Republicans are idealists

Both parties want America to be economically strong and secure.

Years the ago the rag on liberals was that they are idealistic dreamers. They are do-gooders out of touch with reality and the unintended consequences from their policies make matters worse. They care for minorities at the expense of everything else.

Nowadays the foolish fantasies of conservative ideologues are out of touch with reality and dragging down this country. Their pipe dreams of global dominance, reducing government, and anachronistic morality are proving to be unworkable.

Yet the Republicans remain inflexible in the face of overwhelming evidence of failure. Democrats are guided by reason. We are practical people and willing to change course if the evidence indicates something isn't working. We are more interested in outcome than ideology.

This magnetic shift is becoming more and more apparent and may soon lead to a major electoral realignment.

16. i am not certain about your generalization...

my experience, being an ind., is that dems are in constant moral dilemmas (to win means to cross even more moral lines that have already been crossed? - to help the needed we need to obtain power - to obtain power we need to cross more lines and so on) and the reps see everything based on what they want and can get for themselves, and wouldn't necessarily call it idealistic.

18. Conservative pipe dreams

1. America finds itself in a unique moment of history, where we are the only nation in the world with political and economic hegemony. We must exploit this opportunity to remake the world to our liking. Ideals such as democracy and free markets will then spread like wildfire throughout the world.

2. Taxes and regulations burden the economy and constrain growth and prosperity. Watering the tree tops instead of the grass roots will make a healthy forest.

3. Govt is the problem not the solution so we must harness the unparalleled greatness of the America corporations to solve our problems.

4. America's decline is due to our lax moral values so a return to medieval values will restore our nation.

Once enough voters finally wake up and smell the coffee, they will turn left towards Democratic leaders instead of making Democratic leaders lean right in hopes of snaring mushy-headed conservatives.
