Thought's on Bush's potty note
I realize the note is a few days old so maybe it's already been discussed to death, but I was just looking it over. It says:

"I think I may need a bathroom break. Is this possible?"

/print

What kind of decisive leader "thinks" that he "may" need a bathroom break? You either need one or you don't.

Never mind the ambiguity of "Is this possible?" -- i.e., is it possible that he may need a bathroom break or is it possible to get a bathroom break. Never mind that, but consider how many times he must have been in similar situations. There's no protocol other than asking the Sec'y of State? It's as if he needs her permission.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this note, but to me he lends more evidence to the argument that Bush is a puppet of others, and his decisive leadership is an illusion created by Rove.

There are a few other oddities about the note, such as the fact that MAY NEED A BATHROOM is capitalized and the fact that he actually uses 3 different writing styles: upper/lowercase, all caps, and script.

1. I hear you
but is not leaving the forum considered "walking out" and doesn't that freak the other nations out?

I've heard of this or that ambassador "walking out" at the UN. And you know, I wondered if any of them were just going to the loo.

5. Then he should have said
Then he should have said, "I need a bathroom break" not "I think I may need" one. He should have been decisive. At any rate, one would assume there's some protocol for something like that, rather than asking the Sec'y of State. If anything, why tell her why you want a bathroom break. Seems to me that if the President wrote a note that said, "I need to step out for a couple minutes" that should be enough. It's not elementary school. The whole things strikes me as a bit strange.

6. In this case, no. For Bush to make such a gesture, Bolton and
Rice, as well as their aides, would leave with him -- hardly likely if he were just stepping out to take a dump.

Believe it or not, even the Great Ones have to go to the john from time to time, and doing so is not considered "walking out" at the United Nations any more than it would be anywhere else.

10. Now you know, that's got to be right
It wouldn't freak anyone out just to have the one leader get up. A formal walk out would involve the whole party.

Thanks. You speak sense.

2. Three Ideas
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 08:19 AM by iamjoy
1) Maybe he didn't really have to go potty, he was bored and wanted a break. He didn't want to say this, so he blamed it on nature.

2) My other idea is that with pride being what it is, he didn't want to admit to the U.N. that he couldn't hold it and was asking Condi to take the heat from him by saying SHE needed a break and then the entire delegation leaves together.

3) He wasn't literally asking permission, he was asking if this would be an appropriate time to leave. This isn't evidence of a weak or indecisive leader, but some one clueless about diplomatic protocal and needing guidance.

3. Bu$h is a stupid PNAC/Neocon puppet. Even those pulling his strings
did not realize how stupid he would be. He has no ability to deal with stressful situations. In fact, he's on vacation again as of today. He's at Camp David.

Reagan was an actor and thus a good "front man." (Plus he was deaf and suffered from Alzheimers for at least half of his 8 year term.)

Bu$h is a spoiled, idiot, frat boy who is in way over his head.

4. The disengaged
Bush relies on others for any official function. He is bored incoherent ignorant and reliant upon earpieces, mouth pieces and who ever. Back in the office the chairman of the bored stamps the big picture and OK's any methodology to get what he wants. His public performances are just that

and piss poor.

What is worse this style rubs off the red shoes of the people who are left holding the bag.

7. Indeed, you are reading too much into the note.
I know it is easy to make fun of AWOL about this note. It is my understanding that he was merely asking about the protocol of taking a bathroom break (as to not offend others).

I'm proud that our little trooper, asked an adult to go to the potty, instead of assuming he knows everything, and making an ass out of himself (like he usually does).

The man is an idiot, and even when he appears to do something right, he is still an idiot.

Cheers
Drifter

11. so he didn't want to offend by taking a break, but he had no problem with:
- calling the entire body irrelevant.

- illegally invading a soverign nation without their consent, which results in the killing of thousands of innocent civillians.

- recess appointing Bolton the Destroyer to muck everything up there.

- giving speeches that do nothing more than insult the intelligence of every diplomat there.

Really, I miss the logic there. But that's SOP for this crew.
