Anyone have links regarding voting places closed for recall
election?

I have heard and read that some counties are not using all the usual voting places due to the shortness of the campaign and money concerns. Are there some figures out there?

My voting place is open. Is this true?

1. Approximately 25% of the usual places are open.
If Special election rules apply.....

2. 25%??? Now THAT is a disaster just waiting to happen
Tomorrow could be a friggin disaster. If lines are too long, nobody is happy, and whoever loses the election will almost surely file a lawsuit alleging the disenfranchisement of voters.

3. Are you serious?
25% is all that HAS to be open? That can't be.

4. a link
http://www.dailydemocrat.com/articles/2003/08/07/news/news2.txt
While Gov. Gray Davis claims that counties will keep thousands of voters from the polls by opening fewer precincts Oct. 7, county election officials say they've done it before and they risk chaos by having voting places with no poll workers.

According to Yolo County Clerk-Recorder Freddie Oakley, about half, or 55, of the usual number of polling places will be open. She also said the office is finding it hard to hire poll workers. "We have another election within a month," she said. "We are having a very difficult time finding poll workers who are willing to work twice in a month." Oakley also said a lot of the polling places which officials usually use will not be available for the election adding that because of this the county will save money. "We will save money because we will have fewer polling places and we will have fewer workers," she said.

There was a DU thread containing info on the number of polling places that will be open a while back, and I thought I'd bookmarked it, but can't find it now.

5. It's un-democratic to question the validity of the amount of voting places
Edited on Mon Oct-06-03 02:56 PM by Homer12
...after Arnold has been installed.

This will be the republican responce the second Davis and Bustamante question and challenge the election #'s.

It's great, challenging the legatimcy of a hastily made recall election 8 moths after a real election, and then accusing the challengers of being un-democratic sore-losers when they question the validity and constiutionality of the results and the way the election was set up in the first place.

It's going to be just as bad as Florida.

The constitutionality of the elections (and elections in general): the Supreme court will take the case (thus putting them in a position to install Arnold).

The 3 panel court that wanted to delay the recall will be justified.

You can probably get the same thing for other counties through the county website.

8. My standard polling place is closed
I live in East Hollywood, in a mixed area of middle-class homeowners and renters down to the rather poor. Our polling place is not going to be open, but instead, we will be going to one about 15 blocks from here.

Only once in the 12 years since I've lived here have we had to this place; it's not the end of the world, but it will definitely affect some working folks who will be caught in a last minute scramble. I'm going to print up a sign for the door of the church where we usually vote to direct people to the correct place, if they haven't already done that.

Yes, this is bullshit. This whole election stinks, and any bellyaching from Schickelgroper's camp (kudos to Snellius for that name) about dirty tricks are revolting; the whole election's one big dirty trick.

It's not the end of the world, but it does affect Democratic neighborhoods disproportionately; this is about a 70/30 precinct, incidentally.

13. California polling place information.....
.....as a public service for my fellow Californians.

The address for your polling place for the special election can be found on the back page of the sample ballot that was mailed to you. Look just above the mailing address.
If you did not receive or can't find your sample ballot, consult the list below for the information for your county. :)

If you encounter any problems at your polling place you can fill out a Voter Fraud Complaint Form and please report all problems to the BBV Report.org web site.

Please remember: polling places are open from 7:00am to 8:00pm on Election Day.
