This is their response to the Vatican criticising US poverty. Talk about bile.

4. Bush wants them to contribute to rebuilding Iraq
Its right here..think they will ante up??? I mean, since they are all so rich and all....

WASHINGTON - (KRT) - From the Indian Ocean tsunami to the church around the corner, Americans have shown time and again they are willing to open their pocketbooks for charity, for a total of about $250 billion last year alone.

But now, amid pleas for aid after Hurricane Katrina, the Bush administration has launched an unusual effort to raise charitable contributions for another cause: the government's attempt to rebuild Iraq.

9. Weaned on Ronnie Reagan's milk, I'd say
If you want to spare reading the string (up to 75 messages), these posts reek of the attitudes I remember Mr. Reagan spewing about welfare queens, and the other stereotypes about people being poor because they are lazy, stupid or disabled, that women having too many children, no ambition, get what they deserved.

10. Many times I have argued against this idea that the poor are that way
by choice. I have found that most freepers who stick to this poor by choice talking point don't actually know any poor people.

I recently met a family with 3 children. The father is a double amputee (diabetes) and the mother is mentally retarded and works a fast food job. It is beyond obvious that the father did not choose to be diabetic and that the mother did not choose to be mentally retarded. I suppose you could make the argument that they did choose to have 3 children. But I wonder if medicaid pays for birth control?

27. Who the heck do they think
serves them their meals when they eat out. Who do they think work in the factories that make their refridgerators? Who do they think work in the fish markets? Who do they think sell them their clothes? These people are the working poor. Lots of them have no healthcare. They live from check to check. Heaven forbid their car breaks down or they get sick.
They working poor are the one's who support the lifestyle of the rich. And the freepers. It breaks my heart to see so many hard working people who can barely make it week to week. They are doing the jobs that the rich wouldn't lower themselves to do. They deserve decent wages and our thanks.

this is America and these people have a choice. They could have chosen to go to college if they wanted a better job. They also think the uninsured choose to be uninsured. Freepers are just too dumb to realize that no one in their right mind would choose to be poor, uneducated and unhealthy.

14. Dick. Heads.
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 12:19 PM by HughBeaumont
Sorry bud, but if you're poor in this country its because your either stupid, lazy, or disabled. And if you are "poor" in this country your doing much better off than most other countries.

NO. YOU'RE WRONG. YOU DICK.

It's because of
a. Wealth inequality that gets worse every year.
b. A system that now discourages free enterprise instead of championing it. The rich buy the poor, keep them poor and outsource all of their work to the poorer, thereby making themselves richer and bolting the attic door shut even more. We tax small businesses to the Hilton and give corporations every single advantage on the planet, from cost savings to tax breaks to bailouts.
c. Offshoring of high pay, high tech jobs. No matter how educated you are, the third world countries can get the same degrees you have and still remain exponentially cheaper because of our ridiculously huge cost of living even for those who have not a single luxury to their name. Bio-tech? Nano-tech? Stem-Cells? Repukes run corporations AND the government. Repukes are the anti-science party. Put 2 and 2 together and it's easy to see why these professions are already starting to thrive in low-cost countries and we're still debating about whether to teach the oxymoronic "intelligent creationism" in our classrooms.
d. That same system is now corporate-favored and no longer includes workers in the grand scheme of things. What if we don't WANT to give universities thousands of dollars every four years because we have to learn something new? When does this all end? NEVER? What we have now is designed to keep the working class . . . the working class . . .for the rest of their lives. Gee, and who says we have nothing to shoot for?

Sometimes, and this is something that escapes those fuckheads over at RimJob's site completely: What do you tell the people who did everything they were told to do, went into the professions that were considered hot, got the right educations, went on the right track and for whatever reason, be it downsizing, injury or just plain bad luck, it just doesn't HAPPEN for them? That everything that seems to happen to other people simply doesn't fall into place for them?

Smart, hardworking and able-bodied has very little to do with success or riches. Ask any one of the Bushes or Paris Hilton.

23. People tend to identfy more with the rich
than they do with the poor regardless of the fact almost all of them have FAR more in common with the poor than with the rich.

People have this Horatio Alger delusion, which talk show host Bernie Ward has said has done a lot of damage to the country, that if you work hard enough and save your money, you, too, will be rich and "successful."

Well, reality simply doesn't work that way, as luck, inheritance, and connections have far more to do with success than "hard work."

But what's strange is most people can't make the connection that they are in effect supporting a leech class of rich by continuing to support a party dedicated to give that leech class even more handouts at their expense.

25. I fucking hate those knuckledraggers
And it's not so much because some of their opinions don't have merit. In fact, as an advocate that ALL americans are failures, for their society, and lack the motivation necessary for stewardship of the Republic, and that all institutions are inherently corrupt, I don't absolve the poor of their faults -- which are very true, and very disturbing. I also think that the welfare system has institutionalized poverty.

The problem with the freepers, however, is three-fold.

A. To pull yourself up by your "bootstraps," that means you have to invest faith in the corporate institution. The freepers are all too ready to invest that faith in the corporation and the church, but, because they've been BRAINWASHED, are not willing to invest faith in the one institution that happens to restrain the coffers and abuses of THE HANDLERS THAT MAKE THE THINK TANKS AND WRITE THE "OPINIONS" (propaganda), that the freepers eat up. And why do they eat them up? Fear, racism, low self-esteem -- i.e. the idea that you have to place yourself above someone else in the "hierarchy" to develop one's self worth. It is quite possible to say that someone who isn't working is "lazy" -- it is, however, also possible to say that the asshat who is lending his labor to the corporation who is poisoning his community, gaming the government, and placing lower-than-actual value on his labor is a real fucking rube. I don't care how many non-welfare-paid-for televisions he has, in his house.

B. There is a problem with welfare -- and the problem with welfare is that it keeps Mr. Freeper from actually having to get up off his ass, and get out into his community, and make contact with those less fortunate -- those blackies -- and invite them into their homes and neighborhoods and churches and do more than put a couple of bucks in the collection plate and blame it on "libruls." I've never met a REPUBLICAN who worked for Habitat for Humanity. I've never met a REPUBLICAN who worked for a privately run social service organization, and I've sure as fuck, never seen Mr. Giant Belt Buckle, going into the inner city, and inviting a black family home for dinner. He doesn't even realize that the major purpose of welfare is to keep the have-nots from slitting his throat, while he jacks off in the shower, and that it enables him to pay a nice little, no-strings-attached pennance to build a wall of whiteness and middle-class influence around him.

C. This Christian bullshit. So many of their fantasyland games actually hurt, rather than help, when it comes to poverty -- lack of birth control, sex education programs, Church Disneylands (instead of feeding the poor) -- and even the SICK FUCKING REVISIONIST NOTION that God blesses the wealthy with riches, on Earth. This is the biggest area of their cognitive fuck-on-ance. The corporation that they've invested so much goddamn faith into has partnered up with the Church fitness center to re-vise the central message of Christianity, into something that runs directly agains the ENTIRE PURPOSE OF THE RELIGION.

Not to mention the fact that they don't give a fuck if we're giving welfare to corporations, handing our tax dollars out of the back of a truck to the Mossad and mercenaries in Iraq.

The problem with the freepers is not that they necessarily are way off base, with the idea that there could be a better alternative for the social welfare system, it's that this idea has been planted in their minds, by their handlers, for different reasons, that don't even have to do anything with making America better, or stronger, or giving everyone the chance to work and compete. In that respect, they have no solutions, no concept of what it would take to fix it - and no desire to actually do the things that would fix it -- and for that, they're FUCKING WORTHLESS. They need to shut their fucking pie holes and learn that the assholes that they trust, are gaming them, and that that they're no different from the government. And, in fact, that their dumb asshole leaders have basically ran the government for the last several years, and if they wanted to do anything about it, they would have. They don't.

the whole moral values thing? Last time I checked bigotry and hate were not moral values. People like this also generally like to thump their bibles while using their "christian core beliefs" to spread intolerance, hate and bigotry...they are the biggest bunch of sanctimonious phonies out there.

What they preach is the antithesis of a worthwhile set of moral or ethical values.

35. Hi, freepers! Quick, here's a mini-quiz for you:
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 04:02 PM by belle
Who said this?

"If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor..."

Was it:

a) Saddam Hussein?
b) Stalin?
c) Bill Clinton?
d) Jesus ?

You have four guesses, and the first three don't count.

Full verse:

Matthew 19:21

Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

***

You're good Christian folks, aren't you? Sure you are.

Also see:

Leviticus 14:35

`Now in case a countryman of yours becomes poor and his means with regard to you falter, then you are to sustain him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you.

Deuteronomy :

7. "If there is a poor man with you, one of your brothers, in any of your towns in your land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand from your poor brother;
9. "Beware that there is no base thought in your heart, saying, `The seventh year, the year of remission, is near,' and your eye is hostile toward your poor brother, and you give him nothing; then he may cry to the LORD against you, and it will be a sin in you.
11. "For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you, saying, `You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.'

Proverbs 17:5

He who mocks the poor taunts his Maker;
He who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.

Matthew 25:42-45

42. for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;
43. I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.'
44. "Then they themselves also will answer, `Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?'
45. "The King will answer and say to them, `Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'

Matthew 5:42

"Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

Revelation 3:17
`Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,
