Have you ever seen a photo of the Texas "cowboy" on the most enduring symbol of the west a horse. Reagan rode one all the time for crissakes and I'm convinced bush bought the "ranch" because Ronnie had one. So why not be photographed riding a horse like Reagan too? Because he's scared of 'em the little wuss.

This is a big bone of contention with my bush loving son in law. I have a standing offer to pay him $100 if he can produce a picture of bush on a horse. And I remind him of it every time I see him. I still have my $100 and I'm not worried that I'll ever be giving it up.

The real reason Bush is afraid of horses...

In his late twenties, George Bush decided to go horseback riding. Although he has had no previous experience he skillfully mounted the horse and appeared in complete command of the situation as the horse galloped along at a steady pace.

After a short time George became cocky and attempted some rodeo moves he had seen on TV. He quickly lost his grip on the saddle, panicked, and grabbed the horse around the neck shouting for it to stop. George had by this time slipped completely out of the saddle and is only saved from hitting the ground by the fact that he still had a firm grip on the horse's neck.

George decided that his best chance was to leap away from the horse, and as he leaped, his foot became entangled in one of the stirrups and his head started to bang on the ground as the horse galloped along.

George, now panicked and fearing for for his life, started screaming,"help!!!!"

Hearing his screams, the K-Mart manager casually walked out of the store and unplugged the horse.

I don't know what the foundation of the story is, but it's good enough to use in comedy. If it's not true, it ought to be, and in any case we ought to repeat it until everyone believes it.

That sounds familiar, about Fox, now that you mention it.

A couple of years ago, when Putin was scheduled to visit Bush at his "ranch," I remember reading that Vladimir, who used to be a good horseman in his youth, spent some time brushing up his horsemanship because he was looking forward to spending a lot of time riding around the pig ranch with the cowboy president. He was very disappointed to learn that Bush never rides horses but instead drives around the spread in a truck.

country with stuffed horses. Kids would dress up like cowboys to get their picture taken on a horse. I have one with me on a horse that is rearing up. It was also a Pinto, I have seen several photos of kids on stuffed pinto ponies. I remember the guy we used also had a stuffed buffalo. The NYT reported that George doesn't ride, to Putin's disappointment. I don't think there are any horses on the ranch.

not supporting *'s fears. I respect horses I'm not scared of them. I know personally two people that have been killed by horses. One was esp nasty, older woman got bucked off than the horse removed half of her face after she was on the ground. She hung on for two weeks before she died.

I was such a fanatic horse nut when I was a young person. I rode horses and eventually had my own. But, it's funny, after years of close calls (being bucked off, run away with, almost kicked in the face, jump refusals, etc.) and one broken arm (my horse actually fell all the way over when he spooked), it finally started dawning on me that I COULD get disfigured, paralyzed, brain injured, killed, or what have you.

After that, I basically gave up horses because you can't ride if you're afraid. It's too bad -- I still miss the pure joy of riding on a beautiful galloping horse.

I decided to take formal lessons. It was winter and I rode in an indoor ring. One day there was a thaw going on. I had just finished my session and I was getting ready to dismount and had my feet out of the stirrups. All of a sudden there was a huge bang, which I learned later was ice falling off the metal roof. My horse spooked, reared and I fell. I was lucky and was just sore for about a week. I took my next lesson and then quit.

I am self-employed and there is only me. I have two sons to take care of, no health insurance, and it dawned on me that I wasn't in the position to take any unnecessary chances. I still love horses, and enjoy them, but riding is something that is now part of my history.
