Is Mallard Fillmore supposed to be some RW answer to Doonesbury?
I must say it is the lamest comic I have ever seen. It is just RW talking points du jour with pictures. I guess the knuckle-draggers need visual aids for their stupid talking points. And if it is supposed to answer Doonesbury, it, uh, is an ABYSMAL FAILURE.

3. It's insultingly lame ... a "lame duck"? a "lame yuck"?
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 04:41 PM by TahitiNut
Whenever I read it, I'm head-shakingly dumbfounded that anyone would regard it as worth killing trees (maybe bushes, though) to print it. I've never detected the smallest degree of talent or intellectual agility in it. None. Zip. Nada.

For example ... Do you suppose Tinsley shops at Wal*Mart? Do you suppose Tinsley knows that the Walton Klan is 100% right-wing? Do you suppose Tinsley has the slightest comprehension of the facts?

15. Now, that is one really stupid particular toon
Can anybody say "Wal-Mart"? Or maybe I should say, "China-Mart"?

FWIW, long before I was politically aware, I would bypass the Fillmore strip because it. just. isn't. funny.

4. Parody in Stewart's "America: The Book"
Was a riot "Oops, forgot to tell a joke".

Mallard's creator was not amused.

6. Conservative whackos don't really do humor very well
Because the targets of their ridicule are invariably the weakest and most vulnerable members of society. Somehow, Americans don't think it's very funny for the moneyed elite to gloat over their victims.

7. At least the title is an honest expression of RW beliefs...
...considering that Millard Fillmore was the president who signed the Fugitive Slave Act, and refused to be a Republican back when Republicans were the good guys.

12. Casper (WY) Star-Tribune
has run Doonesbury and Mallard Fillmore at the top (or bottom) of the letters to the editor page for several years now. And, yes, I did say Letters to the Editor page as the CST is one of the few newspapers left in the country that sets aside a full page nearly every day to letters to the editor. And, since it is a statewide paper, it's often a very interesting and very lively forum. We have our regular conservatives, liberals, fascists, extreme libertarians, socialists, and progressives. My favorite part of the paper. I read Mallard Fillmore a few times, trying to scope out the opposition, but it was so ridiculously nothing that I ignore it now.

16. Yes, and it has been used that way.
Where I used to live, both were placed in the editorial pages. Where I am now, Doonesbury is where it belongs, in the comics; and Mallard only appears on Sundays, in the comics. There are comics that are conservative, BC is Creationist, but none are as lame as Mallard. How about that: a lame duck!
