FEMA hires a PR firm...
From a blog on weatherunderground.com

http://www.weatherunderground.com/blog/KatrinaBlog/comment.html?entrynum=4&tstamp=200509

Now the bad news. An American Red Cross employee called Sunday and informed her that Red Cross deployed doctors will not be able to practice medicine. They would be allowed to do first aid--i.e., clean cuts and put on band-aids, the kind of thing you do at home. Red Cross deployed doctors would not be allowed to give drugs or do any medical procedures.

So, Diane is going to go down anyway, and hope that the rules change. There have been some doctors who have gone down and been able to work out arrangements with local officials to let them practice medicine.

In FEMA's defense, they have never had to coordinate an emergency effort needing a massive medical response. The 9/11 disaster, last year's hurricanes, and the Oklahoma City bombing were all handled by local medical resources. Let's hope FEMA learns from this disaster and is ready for the next one.

One final note of irony--one of this blog's readers, who is also a doctor having no luck getting deployed, relayed this story to me: A friend in Grand Junction, CO, who has Public Relations experience, got a call from FEMA Wednesday, two days after the hurricane, asking her to come down and do PR work for FEMA. One wonders if FEMA is doing a better job coordinating the deployment of the PR people they are calling up than the doctors!

1. even when I think there is no more room for them to do more
dumb and horrible things, they manage to prove me wrong.
Their lack of caring (and obviously of conscience) has no boundaries.

19. 2 days post-tragedy and we have:
FEMA trying to make it look like dead bodies floating around/starving people are GOOD things...and then we have Rove making calls to TX to get someone fired over his TX voting status.

Glad to see these asswipes have their fucking priorities straight. I feel so much safer now.

"Karl called me. He had read the article and wanted to know if it was our stance" that his voter registration status in Texas might be in jeopardy, he said. "I told him it wasn't and that the person who gave that opinion was not authorized to do so."

The call to Williams came at the height of the Hurricane Katrina catastrophe, the weekend after the storm struck. Rove was involved in the early White House response and subsequently has been a leader in the federal government's reconstruction effort.

Elizabeth Reyes, 30, was terminated Sept. 6 after being quoted in The Washington Post three days earlier saying it was potential vote fraud to register in a place where you don't actually live.

2. Everything is about PR and not about solutions....
with this bunch. We need to focus more on these PR diversions, I would suggest.

3. All the PR resources in the US cannot put FEMA together again...
We need a new POTUS for that job.

5. Yep. Humpty Bushco had a great fall
and not even Rove and company can put him back together again.

4. They don't need a PR firm
They already have a widely-recognized and catchy slogan: "FEMA -- we'll be there in 72 hours or your funeral's free!"

9. And we still don't buy it.
These bastard GOP MBAs have got to go. Clean the house in 2006. I'd prefer it to be green, but will settle for a true blue.

12. If FEMA had been properly funded and managed/cared for...
there would be no need to hire a PR firm to limit 'damage'. FEMA folks (and others) wouldv'e been the heros!

So much potential heroism has been thwarted during this entire NO ordeal.....the *cabal has an amazing capacity to thwart the goodness that people have to offer.....

13. Yeah, I also received one of those calls.
I'm experienced in PR and teach it.
I was contacted that week and asked to send my resume for consideration.
Of course they never called me to come, because I'm sure they realized I gave money to Kerry.

LOL

16. It's all about appearances and marketing.
Not substance or content. Dems would be more effective it they could trash the marketing by accurately labelling the R product as BAD--bad goverment, fraudulent.
