Clinton launches withering attack on Bush on Iraq,Katrina,US budget deficit

WASHINGTON - Former US president Bill Clinton on Sunday sharply criticised George W. Bush for the Iraq War and the handling of Hurricane Katrina, and voiced alarm at the swelling US budget deficit.

Breaking with tradition under which US presidents mute criticisms of their successors, Clinton said the Bush administration had decided to invade Iraq “virtually alone and before UN inspections were completed, with no real urgency, no evidence that there were weapons of mass destruction.”

The Iraq war diverted US attention from the war on terrorism ”and undermined the support that we might have had,” Bush(typo-Clinton) said in an interview with an ABC’s “This Week” programme.

Clinton said there had been a “heroic but so far unsuccessful” effort to put together an constitution that would be universally supported in Iraq.

1. I think there's a typo in the third paragraph.
Says "Bush" where it should say "Clinton".

Maybe they need to know this. It could lead to some confusion.

3. Breaking with tradition under which US presidents mute criticisms of their
successors. Hmmm, are all you Clinton bashers catching this he's "breaking tradition" to criticize Bush. Maybe some of the bashers are old enough to know that it's highly unusual for a former president to criticize his predicessor. :P

8. Finally Bill is coming to his senses
an interview with Matt Lauer on Good Morning America, Bill conceded that the extension of further tax cuts serve no purpose and that repealing the tax cuts for the wealthy is an appropriate thing to do now.

13. "Conceded?" He's always been vehemently against the tax cuts
He's been critical of those since day one. He attacked them, not for the first time, in his speech at the 2004 Democratic convention.

Geez. If chronic Clinton-bashing requires a complete memory wipe, maybe it should be moderated a little.

9. I find it funny he criticizes Bush on anything but free trade policies
I guess off-shoring jobs is not a significant issue. Yeah, and I guess I'm a steel worker who is happy to have lost my job because China has no labor standards, has no environmental standards, and generally doesn't give one shit about ordinary people trying to put food on the damn table and pay the fucking bills.

11. I'm glad he said what he said
I still WANT to like Clinton. When he talks I feel like listening.

And I feel he still cares about humanity.

But he needs to be a more consistant in his criticism. Clinton is doing what he's known for - trying to be liked by all people.

Clinton should realize that a segment of the population (the freeper types) will always hate him, regardless of how nice he is to Bush Sr or his spoiled fucked up son.

These times are not precedented and the tradition of ex-presidents not criticizing the sitting president are no longer relevant.

Clinton has the ability to be a strong and constant advocate of the party's message. He shouldn't send mixed signals.
