1. But the Hate Clinton premise is that he does everything for an evil reason
therefore what you get is "he only bashes Bush to get Hillary elected, we hate him, fucking DLC," etc.

The point is to make it impossible for a Clinton to win.

2. Lot's of luck. People love to hate Clinton.
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 11:03 AM by FlaGranny
100% purity is required and past transgressions can never be forgiven.

Edit: I think some people here think he is more evil than Bush and it makes you wonder what the agenda is, doesn't it. 90% of what Clinton did was extremely good for this country, but that doesn't count I guess.

3. I have to agree with you.
But I take PRIDE in bashing Clinton bashers as much as I enjoy bashing the Bush cabal.

4. This place often blows with the wind....
one day a person is a hero, the next day we hate the person. Don't worry, there's always a "next day" just around the bend.

I've never understood how people can change their feelings on a dime. But they do.

If tomorrow Dennis Kucinich said something nice about Bush, or if he supported one of Bush's bills pending in Congress, there would be dozens of threads from bitter people vilifying him as a DLC tool.

There is a lot of the "what have you done for me lately" attitude here. The left has more of a tendency to act that way than the right does. LBJ was always angered and frustrated by activists on the left always demanding more and more, showing him very little gratitude, even as he did more to fulfill their agenda than any president before him.

6. There are thousands of individuals on DU...
...and each one has a different OPINION.

It's too bad that you lump everyone together as 'Clinton bashers' if they happen to simply disagree with his politics.

The 'Clinton Apologists' are beginning to sound very shrill...with demands for loyalty oaths and banning posters who write negative posts about demigod Clinton.

Clinton made the mistake of giving the DLC too much power in OUR party. It shouldn't be a 'thoughtcrime' to disagree with the 'new democratic' agenda that has made our party irrelevant.

8. Sorry, but he is a day late, and a dollar short,
At least when it comes to the Iraq War. Where was his criticism of this when it really counted, like before the IWR? Why did he insist on killing a half million innocent Iraqis through sanctions and thrice weekly bombing runs? Why did his wife feel the need to vote for the IWR? And puleeze Bill, if you are so pissed off about your tax cut, why not give it up, or donate it to charity.

In addition, a little bit of hesitant criticism isn't going to make up for the fact that Clinton gutted the American job market with NAFTA, ripped out the social safety net with welfare "reform", and stole our public voice via the '96 Telecom Act. The man has a lot to atone for, and some hesitant, half hearted criticism isn't going to absolve Clinton of the many sins that he committed. The man may have been the best Republican president since Lincoln, but that does not give him a free pass.

9. Ehhh, Clinton can bite me!
He's been parading around with Sr. Bush and snuggling up to them. These people are scripted. Everything they say and do is scripted.

I would never make it in politics because I would NEVER be seen in the same room with the Bush crime family, much less the same GOLF CART or having dinner.......gag! No thank you.

The Clintons and the Bushes can go to hell!

Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 12:17 PM by FlaGranny
your way or nothing? You know what that gets you in the end? - nothing. Far fringe left/far fringe right = equal but separate, and neither ever gets their way because both are minorities.

I must admit I am somewhat closer to the fringe left than the middle, but I also have a strong base in reality.

13. There is no 'fringe left' in the Democratic party...
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 12:37 PM by Q
...this is a myth perpetuated by the 'new' Democrats to marginalize the voices speaking out against them.

What the DLC labels (and others repeat) as the 'fringe left' is nothing more than your average Democrat that wants their party back.

We're the working class...even though the DLCers call us 'elitist liberals'. Unlike the DLC...sitting in their ivory tower paid for with corporate 'donations'...we work for a living and we're tired of being called the 'fringe'.

15. While most on this site are certainly not "fringe"
there certainly are some here who are. What do you call someone who wants everything his way and will abide by no compromise? I've been a Democrat my entire life, and I am pretty far to the left in my beliefs, but I know that if I am completely satisfied and happy with my government, there is another person on the other side who is just as unhappy. Eventually there will be a backlash.

If we ever want to improve our government, people have to be educated, because domination does not work. Domination is what the Republicans are doing right now. The result is that people (us) are getting angrier and angrier. Carrying this to the inevitable end could result in civil war. We could win that, maybe, but following the Republican blueprint of arrogance and domination is not the right way and would soon enough come full circle.

P.S. I must work now, so I probably won't be back to this thread for a while.

19. That's another DLC talking point: the left wants 'purity'...
...when all we really want is fairness and accountability from our so-called leadership.

For instance...the 'new' Democratic leadership has all but abandoned unions and the working class. Workers now have NO party to represent their interests. This leaves them to be exploited and turned into virtual slaves that have to complete for jobs with slave-labor nations. The same goes for women's and civil rights.

We don't want 'our' way...we want what millions of Americans want and deserve from a Democratic Republic.

I could go on and on about how the DLC has changed the party platform and agenda...without the consent of the governed. In other words...they're serving themselves and the true elite and not the best interests of the people.

Worst of alll is their compromises with the Bush criminals. The Bush Junta becomes ever more emboldened each time the 'new' Democrats compromise or enable their insane agenda. The people deserve better than this. They deserve an opposition party that upholds the rule of law and honors the Constitution.

Ummm... the "backlash" is NOW. I'm afraid those on the extreme far right are in control. Maybe it will take some in the "looney left" to swing the pendulum in the other direction... just maybe?

10. where clintons, bidens fall short..... they are hoping beyond hope
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 11:47 AM by seabeyond
that at some point bush will do something right. we need things to work in iraq. that isn't a lie. we do. it is just that we, already are sure, bush will not be able to do. we are not enablers. bush cannot do iraq. or katrina. or education. or environment. or economy.

these people knew they were stuck with bush. they hoped.....

and now katrina, it is clear bush cant do shit

i dont think clinton was doing what he was doing, in his support of bush for evilness. i think they saw the seriousness, knew bush had the power, and wanted to be able to possibly guide adm to do what they have to. i believe, finally clintons and others are going to have to say

k

we give up on bush

on edit, i think kerry took this step during campaign. and boxer after election. you can see it in the politicians when they give up on bush. al frankin saying doesnt trust bush with katrina. no shit we say, but is frankens moment

again, we all just did it way earlier

17. I don't bash Clinton, I just remind people who think he's some sort of
leftist-- either people who like him or people who think he's the spawn of satan-- of his stances on NAFTA, DOMA, welfare reforms, and gun control.

Laying out why he's a moderate made a couple Republicans I used to work with who thought he was some sort of "dangerous leftist" reconsider American politics.

21. He had actually been critical of Bush* before...
...because I remember him saying things about how Bush* has divided us and went too far to the right after 9/11. Clinton's really taking big steps by doing this because generally an ex-president does not directly criticize a current one, and really if he still followed that rule I wouldn't mind. There are tons of other people who can criticize Bush*.

26. A wee fucking bit late
The election was last year. NOW that's it the thang to do-to actually say what Bush has done about Iraq-now??!! Clinton's been so damn supportive of Iraq until now. I call bullshit. He's just saying what Hillary won't because they have figured out the base don't want Vichy Dems. Too late too late too late. AND it's not the same goddamn thing has having a change of heart-as that Freedom fries guy-whom Du'ers loved to say-fuck him-too late. This is not a change of heart-this is a caculated political decision to speak now.
