That's 13 cents per day, and not just for the NYTimes, but for the archives and all the other features it makes available. I think it's more than worth it. Seems everyone wants something for nothing these days.

I don't care if it's 1 cent a day, I don't have money in my budget for it. I wasn't even complaining about it, in fact I said that I understand they have to make money. Just because something is worth it's cost doesn't mean that I have to buy it. Even if it's something I like.

5. I don't really blame the NYT for doing this

First of all, the NYT editorial columnists and pages are a big draw to the NYT website. Second, and I have posted this previously, newspapers in general(not only the NYT)have been experiencing a long, slow decrease in revenues from newsprint. They are looking for other ways to bring in revenues. Journalists have to make a living too, and also remember this, the NYT IS a business. I still think the NYT is a great paper. I don't think that a buck a week isn't that big a sacrifice to keep America'a flagship newspaper running.
You can still read NYT stories on the website for free. The fee only applies to online users who want to access Krugman, MoDo, Brooks, Rich, and that other guy whose on Charlie Rose every other week talking to hear himself talk.

When they went from $9.95 per year to $19.95. Now it's just as expensive as the Op-eds, extra on top of the new $49.95.

I am an avid reader of the times. I used to subscribe (which will get you free access to all the features of the website too), but I leave too early in the morning to get the paper. Now I read it every day when I get to work. On a daily basis, it is less than $.20 per day. I would buy it in print form for more than double that, but I don't need to since I can read it online. I think it is great that they pass on the print savings for reading it online. I'm happy to pay a fair price for one of my favorite daily activities.

at making the net a pay for information endeavor. News flash. It's too late. While capitalism will try so hard to invade this haven it won't be able to. While the general public is still so slow to get onto the net revolution there's many other users are are way more savvy then these corps give us credit for. They just so typically assume that since they're inept and slow at seeing progress that we all are. You are dead wrong coporate america.
