I just finished a good book last night
And I'd like to recommend it. It's called "Sneaking Into The Flying Circus"-How the media turn our presidential campaigns into freak shows, By Alexandra Pelosi. Yes, she's Nancy Pelosi's daughter.

She spent the campaign of 2004 on the trail with all the candidates, and brings it all into a new perspective.

A good read. I saw her on BookTV a few months back, and it sounded interesting, and I finally got around to reading it. You'll see all the candidates, and their staff, and the media in a new light.

1. Was there anything revealing in it?
Like which candidates were more devious or camapigns or anything?

2. Thanks
I'll check it out when it hits the local library. I'll ask little sister, who is a supervisor at a local library and gives big bro inside info on incoming books.

3. She also did an interesting movie of Bush's 2000 campaign...
"Journeys with George." Pretty interesting, in a know-thine-enemies sort of way.

7. Definitely worth seeing...
Though it pretty much just confirms whatever you already see in W. People who like him say he comes off as folksy, charming, etc. in the movie.
Those of us who know W. better than that say he comes off as cunning, manipulative, and asinine, in no particular order.

4. Sounds interesting
I have her documentary on the DNC primaries from last year and I love it! I love how you get to know the canidates and everything.

8. Is that the documentary where she films Rep Peter King & *
on the eve of the election last November? They say they KNOW that they will win because of the "counting". "We'll take care of the counting, or something like that. Of course it got no mainstream attention.

9. It was about *'s 2000 election campaign & the press
and is being discussed up the thread at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4819334&mesg_id=4819394

It showed how the GOP would make homemade looking signs to hand out with the themes they were emphasizing and how feeding the press corps better food can win them over. There were several parts that creeped me out. Like when * is trying to play matchmaker for Alex and another reporter and later when he turned on her. It should have got more play. I saw it on HBO. It did a lot show what an ass W and his cronies are and showed how they stage events. It was released at a time when W's numbers were pretty (inflated) high and was - imho - ignored by many.
