"He's actually going to do better because there are low expectations"

MSNBC anchor Lisa Daniels touted Bush "likeability factor": "

eople still relate to his character"

On the September 18 broadcast of NBC's syndicated The Chris Matthews Show, MSNBC News Live anchor Lisa Daniels repeatedly defended President Bush's widely criticized response to Hurricane Katrina, predicting "that this is actually ... going to be a win for President Bush." Citing Bush's purported ability to overcome low expectations in presidential debates, Daniels described Katrina as "the perfect storm for him" and suggested that it was "actually going to work to his advantage." In addition, Daniels touted Bush's "likeability factor" and told viewers, "He's the same guy that was on 9-11 with the bullhorn. He hasn't changed. And people still relate to his character." She added that "the white folks" in the French Quarter "told me directly" that "hey're blaming New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin" instead of Bush, because "hey think he cares."

<<<snip>>>>>

DANIELS: Absolutely not. He's actually going to do better because there are such low expectations. You're all writing him off in Newsweek. He's gone.

<...>

MATTHEWS: Lisa, tell me something I don't know.

DANIELS: All right. Being down in New Orleans for two weeks, I think it's actually worse than the TV pictures actually show. But that said, expectations are so bad right now -- that it's going to take so long for the water to be pumped out, that there are 10,000 dead bodies there -- that this is actually, Howard , going to be a win for President Bush.

MATTEWS: Because there won't be 10,000 bodies?

DANIELS: Right. It's going to be much better.

MATTHEWS: They've lowballed it brilliantly.

DANIELS: And that's exactly what President Bush does best.

So this idiot, in a nutshell, is saying that it's GOOD that the levee broke, thousands of people died and a city was destroyed because Bush is gonna look so damn good because he fucked up so badly in the beginning

1. Yep.
A massive level of incompetence is fine, as long as it isn't as bad as it could have been.

2. I think it's too late.
His great speech dropped his numbers another 4 points, almost entirely within his own party. Every time he opens his mouth from now on, it's going to get worse. His credibility is universally shot, so anything he says, even superficially positive promises, just pisses people off because they know he's lying and incompetent (to put his character in the most charitable possible light).

6. I think it's the incompetence that's killing him most
people are ashamed of what happened in New Orleans - they want it fixed - they don't need and don't want his so called likability (which is always been somewhat elusive quality to someone who isn't trying to suck up to him) they want someone who knows what the hell he is doing and gives a shit about the job he has. He can never recover from staying on vacation while Katrina stormed ashore - that's what people remember.

He was weighed in the balance and found wanting to quote from what he says is his favorite book the Bible. Inside the beltway enablers can't change that.

Anyone have any idea how many bodies have been recovered? That story has vanished.

4. Bush has gotten complacent and it shows. He's not running
for office again so he doesn't worry about it. Even his usual cheering section is having trouble defending him on his response to Katrina.

He thinks he's got his brilliant legacy settled because of the "war on terror". I believe, however, that history will remember him as one of the worst presidents we have ever had.

5. I saw that portion of the show
and everyone was looking at Daniels like she was nuts-and she is. It just shows the caliber of Bushbots and how shallow and stupid they are.

8. Yep. It's amazing how many Nazis are now placed in Corporate TV
She was more staggeringly Bushbotic than I ever imagined possible outside of Faux, which isn't a news station at all but a Propaganda Ministry.

I have been saying for years that the Busheviks have accomplished so much ind estroying America and replacing it with Amerika primarily because they have so many Bushevik infiltrators pretending to be journalists.

Now they have so thoroughly ended Free America that the Bushevik infiltrators don't even need to keep up a pretense, wherever they are found.

Disgusring, but entirely in keeping with Amerika (not to be confused with Free America 1776-2000 RIP)

7. Yes, and his incarceration will be a GOOD thing.....
because they only jailed him for one criminal act, instead of all them !

Note to freepers/fundie/bushbots: at this point, start Operation "He's suffering for our sins"

10. We've gone around the bend
She's standing in the fetid muck of death and destruction and she talks about Brand Dubya? And fucktard Matthews goes right along with it? No one can play the Blame Game but it's a-okay to chirp happily about the tactics Bush can use to skate from under this? Jiminy Christmas, we're a nation of obscene idiots...
