Immigration memo intended for Rove arrives on Democrat's fax

An immigration memo intended for embattled White House advisor Karl Rove arrived instead on the fax machine of a Democratic congressman, RAW STORY can reveal.

The congressman who received the fax opted not to comment, and asked that his name not be used.

The focus of Smith's memo, addressed to "Hon. Karl Rove," is on immigration politics.

"Immigration needs to be considered in the context of: (1). Media Bias, (2). Animosity toward the president and (3) the feelings of the Republican base," Smith's memo states.

Smith is a member of the Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims as well as the Subcommittee on Economic Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Cybersecurity. No issues regarding the legislative jurisdiction of these committees are mentioned.

...we should be leading the charge on immigration enforcement before the Rs occupy the field. We should point out the rich interests that want exploitable immigration. We need to be the law-and-order party in perception, not just fact.

They intend this to be the hot button issue of '06 and '08.

Voters are actually concerned about this, and not just in the Southwest either. My mother who still lives in MA said that Gov. Mitt Romney's (R) ending of bilingual education has been greeted with wide acclaim despite the fact that it is MA.

9. By 2014 - there will be a huge deficite of workers - because

boomers will have retired. And this deficite will go on for 20 years.

If they don't have "guest workers" or an amnestry - it will be worker's market and Corporations hate that. In "worker's markets" everyone has to pay to fight inflation - not just the poor & middle class like now.

I find it hard to belive that the corporations actually want 10 Million to be sent home. Or no "guest workers" in the future.

The whole idea of circumventing the law, sneaking in, and working in the black market is very irksome to most people. They want to use the issue to get reelected. Simple as that. They also think that the Ds have no defense against that kind of attack. Go one way and be tagged as soft on crime; go the other way and piss off Latinos and liberal intellectuals. Same with the abortion issue. The middle ground of pro-life-but-against-govt.-intrusion is too nuanced of a position for most people.

It plays to their paranoid base. It is about winning elections, not policy. The Rs have been in control of the govt. since 2001 and Congress since 1995. Despite this, we still have abortion and many other things that the R base finds annoying. Where is that national ban on gay marriage amendment Bush promised? They use these hot-button issues to get in, then revert back to their corporate owners.
