What happens when an ordinary person commits sexual battery?
Man arrested for alleged campus sexual battery
Melody Gutierrez

October 01, 2003

A 37-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with the sexual battery of two Chico State women behind the Campus Health Center, according to the University Police Department. The man, Dennis Anthony Lake of Paradise, was taken into custody after fleeing on foot.

I could probably track down hundreds of other cases, too but I think this gives a pretty clear picture of the reality of sexual battery.

1. All sexual battery cases should be treated as serious, unfortunately

most cases of a wealthy, powerful man, famous or not, committing sexual battery on a female in a subordinate and/or socio-economically inferior position are not reported to law enforcement, or anyone else, for obvious reasons - until the batterer runs for office ;)

Society does not place a high enough value on women for outrage that any man has done such a thing to any woman; however politicians are universally incensed about anything their opponents may have done.

4. Sexual battery?
In my state you have to register with the sherriffs office, drivers license bureau, and other law enforcement entities. Your photo is put on the internet as a sexual predator, they take your dna for a data base etc...........

6. In California
In California sexual offenders are classified by the Department of Justice into one of three sexual offender categories, High Risk, Serious, or Other. The criteria for each of the categories is defined in the California Penal Code.

Sexual battery is included in the "Other" category of Sexual Offender but in CA these people are not put on the internet database available to the public.

Geez! I really had not given much thought before to "groping" (i.e. sexual battery/assault) because it just doesn't happen in my social circles or any that I hear about.
