They had him on an ABC Katrina special on the radio last night and it was like he was hitting on every Republican talking point from criticizing the Mayor for not using the School Busses to saying "The Gov. looked like a deer caught in the headlights and failed to send in the National Guard". Then he went on to push most of the blame of the failure to fix the levies on guys like John Breaux. He hit FEMA with a couple of soft punches but it was clearly one sided BS!

Is it me or is ABC News turning into another branch of FOX?

I wouldn't hold ABC's feet to the fire over him. Though, I honestly can't attest to whether they've been fair in their Katrina coverage or holding this admin. accountable.

Stossel is a seperate issue, as he is such a piece of unique work. I can't stand him, and very rarely watch that show because of him. In my opinion, many of his reports do more harm than good.

Appearing on the Al Franken show 07/22/2004, Stossel was challenged about his book's claim that the government spends nearly $10,000 per poor person. Flipping through the galleys for the book, Franken noticed this figure and expressed skepticism. He found the figure was calculated by dividing the amount spent on means-tested programs divided by the number of poor people. This, Franken pointed out, was absurd because lots of means-tested money goes to people above the poverty line. Stossel promised he would fix this but in the published book he makes the same mistake, but cites a think tank. Franken called the think tank about the issue, and after two days of searching for where they had published the number, they concluded Stossel got it using the same division method. Franken challenged Stossel about this live in studio; Stossel denied that this was how it was calculated.

We've been over this before. In the grand scheme of all the screwups, not mobilizing the school buses was a relatively small screwup (though it was a screwup). They would have only gotten out about 13,000 people, out of the 100,000 stranded in the city. All the drivers split town anyway. The city did bus out several thousand people with municipal buses, and moving people to the Superdome actually saved many lives, and it would have saved more had they been quickly evacuated.

Blanco asked for the National Guard as early as Sunday. It was not helpful that a good chunk of them are off in Iraq killing people and stealing their oil. Much of their equipment is over there too.

John Breaux fought for those levee improvements for years, but his funding requests were usually not met, including by this Administration.

People like Stossel need to shutup, get out of the way and let the professionals do their jobs.

and state officials than Federal. Media Matters called them out on using a Right Wing plant for their coverage. The same guy who had made the rounds at FOX. I have stopped watching them and only turn to CBS and NBC now for the 5:30 news.
