N.O. Evacuees are headed for Arkansas from Houston:
On the Houston news tonight, the evacuees left in Houston are now going to Arkansas. Rita might be headed this way; they are taking no chances.

1. What about the children?
Haven't they been enrolled in Houston schools. Will they be uprooted once again, even though right now, Rita is only a tropical storm coming up on the Keys?

2. A hurricane is a hurricane; if they have to be uprooted
vs. made to feel safe, there's no question they have to move.
That is now our world.
Sucks, doesn't it? I am out of words...

5. OMG! You believe me?
I kid; we have to face the facts of where Rita might be going and what to do about it. That's the bottom line. And you know that...:)

7. Pine Bluff (38 miles southeast of LIttle Rock) would be my first guess.
The PB Convention Center has housed evacuees on behalf of the Red Cross, and is getting ready to close, according to a report on Little Rock TV station KARK as of 9/18.

Now, that center has only cared for about 1500 people. Surely there will be more from Houston. I have not perused what passes for morning news shows yet, but this Wonder State, that Marilyn Quayle feared so greatly during the election of 1992, will undoubtedly do just what it did with the first wave of evacuees: welcome them in whatever numbers they appear. We will find places for everyone who comes.

Arkies will house them, feed them and care for them without thought of recompense because we remember what it's like to have nothing.

Remember New Orleans

Add 1: Rev Gov Huckabee says state has been notified of more evacuees due to Rita, but no mention of where they would be housed. Story at kthv.com

8. Only those who want to go to Arkansas.
Nobody will be uprooted against their wishes.

Not all the evacuees are still in shelters. Some have gotten apartments, others are staying with relatives.
