Bush's 'bullhorn moment' just bull - by Denis Hamill - NY Daily News
I'm amazed that anyone is amazed that it took George W. Bush three days to show up in New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

That's exactly how long it took him to show up at Ground Zero after 9/11.

So it mystifies me that the pundits and the cable gasbags keep telling us that George W. Bush missed his "bullhorn moment" in New Orleans.

No, he didn't.

16. That's because they DO listen to polls, sorta.
Republicans believe that if you ignore something long enough, it will go away. Most things do, unfortunately. People do get worn out and go away, but their skepticism generally turns to cynicism and they go find a corner to stew, until something really, really bad collectively wakes them up and they explode in a fury.

Apparently, it takes Bush's people 3 days to determine if something is really, really bad enough to tell Bush the bad news.

18. Imagine how scary it is to approach him?
"Sir, I'm so sorry to interrupt your binge, but I'm afraid, um, well, er, that is, I have some bad news. Last week, New Orleans was destroyed, and people have been calling. Should I tell them to call back later?"

20. Recall he went to Ground Zero a day after Clinton appeared.
Clinton flew in from Australia, as I recall. Only after all the coverage Clinton got di AWOL/moron show up there.

5. Look At Today's Non-Coverage
He might as well be going to San Diego and playing guitar.

CNN's paying little attention to his latest NOLA photo-op. Rita, obviously, steals the show...but when there is New Orleans coverage, it's still on the missing and the recovery and the problems people are having. This doesn't look like a situation "under control"...CNN still calls it a "State Of Emergency".

That bullhorn moment was supposed to come that Friday when the troops were slogging into the Convention Center. Asshat could have swept in and had that moment...except that there were too many black faces around...and none of those warm and cushy FDNY guys around.

He tried again with the Disney At Night show last week, but it was too late and too goofy. Literally.

I like them trotting out this oxygen thief...he looks so out of touch and he can't stop saying stupid things.

Right now, his bullhorn moments are more like foghorns.

8. This Is AWESOME! It's WAAAAAY Past Time We Revisited Chimpy's 9/11 Actions
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 11:10 AM by Beetwasher
And looked at them realistically, now that the shock and national grief has subsided. Chimpy hasn't changed since then, even then he was an inept bufoon. It was we, as a nation and the Media, who desperately wanted and neeeded leadership in those days who projected leadership qualities on him, because he was all we had. Now the blinders are off and we know better. Indeed. Let's revisit his cowardliness after 9/11, his reading of "My Pet Goat", his running away for days and hiding and his bullshit bullhorn moment. Yes, indeed, let's all look at those events again in the new light and without our grief and shock filled 9/11 lenses, and we will see, the real Chimpy, the incompetent, detached, feckless idiot was around, even then.

19. We projected Leadership qualities on Guliani
He was the only Republican that showed up. There was hardly any mention of Hillary or Schumar and they were there from day one. But because there was no Leadership from the administration Guliani was made out to be some sort of Hero. He did do his job and that is worthy of mention but Heroic hardly. President Clinton was in Australia when 9-11 happened and airline traffic had been halted and he still managed to get to New York before Bush* made his entrance. There is/was no Leadership from Bush*. His bullhorn moment was only a snide comeback to a worker yelling he couldn't hear what was being said. There is no way I could ever view this man as anything other than a coward and shirker.

21. Hamill nails it with --
I often ask successful conservative businessmen friends if they would let George W. Bush run their private businesses. They almost always smile and admit they wouldn't. And yet they voted for him to run the most powerful nation on the planet.

Powerful debating point.
